If Marvel has their way, Joss Whedon will have the kick-assingest Quicksilver of them all. Or at least, an actor who used to play the lead in the “Kick-Ass” comic book franchise. That would be Aaron Johnson (pictured above, clearly returning from the gym).
According to Deadline, the actor is in Marvel’s crosshairs to play the suddenly very in-demand mutant Quicksilver in Whedon’s upcoming “The Avengers 2”. If he does sign on, it would make him the second actor to play Quicksilver in two different movies, with Bryan Singer having previously cast Evan Peters (Johnson’s “Kick-Ass” co-star, natch) to play the same character in his “X-Men: Days of Future Past”.
If you’re keeping track at home, that’s two actors, playing the same character, but in two different movies.
Yeah, it’s complicated like that. But it’s comic books, so we’re used to identity complications with comic books, right?
Word is that Marvel wants Johnson for the role, but it might not work out, seeing as how Johnson is a pretty busy fella. Besides “Kick-Ass 2” (which is wrapped and in the can), Johnson’s got the “Godzilla” reboot on the way, and then, well, what else? Who knows, maybe he might end up as Quicksilver in Whedon’s superhero sequel after all…
For the uninitiated, Quicksilver is Pietro Maximoff, the sister of the Scarlett Witch (who Whedon also wants for “The Avengers 2”), and the son of Magneto, aka Ian McKellan in the “X-Men” films, and Michael Fassbender in the “First Class” films. His power is super speed, thus the name.
