Marvel’s Kevin Feige Confirms Avengers Line-Up

There have been a lot of talk about what characters will show up in Marvel’s upcoming “Avengers” movie (due out in 2012, mark your calenders, kids!), so here’s the skinny: according to Kevin Feige, who should know since he’s Marvel Studios’ main guy, the Avengers line-up will consist of five characters — Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, The Hulk, and Nick Fury. Well, he doesn’t come right out and say Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man, but that seems like a given. He does mention The Hulk and Nick Fury by name, though.

“My only concern is that when we launch a franchise.. whichever characters franchise that may be, it should stand on its own two feet. With Iron Man being the first one out of the gate, thank goodness thats what happend. Everyone loved it. Its our job to do the same with Thor and Captain America two years from now, so by the time The Avengers comes in 2012 its not just a team super hero movie with a bunch of characters with powers, its three people, four including Hulk , five including Nick Fury-who you have seen before in other movies, coming together for the very first time.”

Feige also confirms that they are trying to get Ed Norton back as Bruce Banner aka The Hulk, but doesn’t know if it’ll happen. I’m probably the only guy on the web who didn’t think Norton’s turn as Banner was anything special; then again, I also didn’t care very much for Louis Leterrier’s remake of “Hulk”, so there you have it.

Feige also elaborated on the Thor that will be showing up in Kenneth Branagh’s movie:

“We’re doing the Stan Lee/Jack Kirby/Walt Simonson/J Michael Straczynski Thor. We’re not doing the blow the dust of the old Norse book in your library Thor. And in the Thor of the Marvel universe there’s a race called The Asgardians, and we’re linked through this tree of life that we’re unaware of. Its real science, but we don’t know about it yet. The Thor movie is about teaching people that.”

You can catch the full interview with Feige in this month’s issue of SFX Magazine.

For the last time, the reservation is under Badass. Superhero Badass.

Not a bad lineup. Pretty much what was expected. Now it’s how the story will be told and what comes of it.

NO Pym, no Wasp? I’m pissed!

Told you it wouldn’t happen. They don’t want to introduce too many new characters in the group film. However, we’re still years away from filming and by then Pym and Wasp may just make it in, maybe not as Avengers but in the film. This is the exact type of thing I wrote that “Continuity Trap” thread about over on Ligthning Man. You’re love of the comics is blinding you to how well it’d really work in a 2 hour movie with characters that have already been established and somewhat fleshed out. If we add Pym and Wasp to the mix we’d have to worry about them getting over looked or just plain mishandled as they wouldn’t get the time to develop them in the Avengers movie that Hulk, Cap, Iron Man and Thor have had in their own films. Hell even Fury is going to be popping up in most of them so we’ll get development through that. ALSO since Fury is more like his Ultimate version, maybe this is like the Ultimates with Fury bringing the team together in the first place. Makes more sense anyway when you think about. Random superheroes meeting up to stop a threat at the same time is too much of a coincidence.

I meant Nick Fury! I misspelled it cuz I’m mad!

LOL. True, but he started the Avengers in the Ultimate universe and this seems to be a cross between the 616 and Ultimate universe. Remember everything that happened in the comics won’t happen the same way in the films. Partly because of licensing of characters and such and partly because the original source material is REALLY outdated.
