According to Matt Damon, he didn’t know he (or his character Jason Bourne) wasn’t going to be in Universal’s upcoming “The Bourne Legacy” (aka “Bourne 4”) until someone he knew saw it on the Internet and, we presume, filled him in.
Says Damon to Parade while out promoting his Clint Eastwood supernatural drama “Hereafter”:
I found out they’re making another when somebody saw it on the Internet. Nobody bothered to call me. I’m not in it, but even so, they’ll work Bourne into the title I guess. Universal just wants to call everything the Bourne something. So I guess they are trying to make another franchise and as they say, ‘It isn’t over until it’s over.’
Oh come on, Matt, it’s not like you wanted to be in the movie anyway, right? Or did you?
“Bourne 4” will be written and directed by Tony Gilroy, who has apparently come up with a plan to continue using the “Bourne” name in the title, but leave out Bourne himself. Instead of following Damon’s Bourne, “The Bourne Legacy” will instead use Bourne’s one-man killing spree as the impetus to set up another character caught up in a similar situation. Gilroy has said in the past, though, that he’s left the door open for Damon as Bourne to return sometime in a later installment…
