Director Neill Blomkamp’s isn’t just a social allegory about immigration and other social themes, but it’s also a kick-ass sci-fi movie. And really, isn’t that what’s important? I’m sorry, but all those Big Issues Blomkamp brings up in the film will be forgotten as soon as Matt Damon starts shooting lasers at Sharlto Copley and vice versa. Same with Blomkamp’s “District 9″. I could be wrong, of course. You could be a much deeper human being than I.
Check out a new TV spot and a new trailer for “Elysium”. The trailer is similar to the extended trailer that was released not too long ago, only, well, shorter.
In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy “Coordinators,” people who can afford bio-genetical engineering, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, built by the Armadyne Corporation, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes, a hard government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky ex-con Max is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.
Starring Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Wagner Moura, and Alice Braga.
