Max Payne and Punisher Gets R-Rating

Written by Nix | October 3rd, 2008 | 19 Comments |

Apparently both “Max Payne” and “Punisher: War Zone” are so punishingly violent and brutal that the MPAA has slapped both films with an “R” rating. Fans of both the Punisher and Max Payne should be rejoicing at this news, although I’m not sure if “Max Payne” director John Moore would share your enthusiasm, since the director has gone on record (and some would say, above and beyond) stating that he desperately wants a PG-13 rating for his movie. I suppose you could now say that John Moore is in … payne? Ahem. Sorry.

THR lists “Punisher: War Zone” as R for:

Rated for pervasive strong brutal violence, language and some drug use.

While “Max Payne” got slapped with the R for:

Rated for violence, drug content, some sexuality and brief strong language.

See, John Moore? The MPAA has already thrown down the gauntlet. Now don’t you think it’s time to go back to the editing room and include that nude scene of Mila Kunis that you left out for the purposes of getting a PG-13 rating?

Wait, there is a nude scene with Mila Kunis in “Max Payne”, right? So why am I going to go see this thing? Oh, right. “Rated for violence, drug content, some sexuality and brief strong language.”

Mila Kunis

You should check your sources because max payne IS pg13

it already got approved

Nix on October 4, 2008

You got an issue with my “sources”, go take it up with The Hollywood Reporter.

Mila did a semi-nude scene in Sarah Marshall with that topless pic in the bathroom of Lazy Joes….You’d think she wouldn’t be so shy after that, I’m hoping for that nude scene as well

Those weren’t her breasts.

Yeah I’m not really sure where you heard this from. And a Mila Kunis nude scene? Are you sure you’re not talking about that Olga chick who didn’t seem to have a problem getting nude in Hitman? This confuses me, but unless some other news floats up about this, I’m going to have to deny it. It was R originally, Moore got up in arms, did a bit of fat trimming and got it to a PG-13. The trailers released have it listed as PG-13.

However, I do think it’s a bit strange that the official Max Payne movie site still says, “This film is not yet rated,” even though they have clearly updated it since the new rating. I think you’re trying to purposely stir people up into more bullshit, but that’s just me.

Brandon Varnell on October 7, 2008

thank you jason, atleast someone else out there has some common sense.. the movie DID get a pg-13 cut but this wannabe journalist refuses to realize it because a “big time magazine” said so, even though they write these stories sometime weeks before releasing.. its true he got burned 2-3 times but he finally sent a cut in that got the approval of pg-13

whoever owns this site is going to feel real stupid when the news story turns out complete bull

>>whoever owns this site is going to feel real stupid when the news story turns out complete bull<<

Oh yeah, because, you know, I have so much invested in each of these 10 posts a day that I write. Gosh, I sure hope they’re all correct! I mean, it’s not like I make up half of the crap I write here just to keep myself entertained. Fingers crossed!

I don’t have a problem with your sources, you should..

you are posting false information, its pg-13.. its been pg-13 for awhile now..

real professional site you got going on here pal.. maybe you should get a real source instead of posting “rumors” or copy/pasting news

good day sir.

Nix on October 7, 2008

Yeah, those guys at the Hollywood Reporter. How dare they post movie ratings straight from the MPAA and without first conferring with Brandon Varnell! Damn them and their non-professional shindig!

Brandon Varnell on October 7, 2008

obviously they aren’t because it got a PG-13 raiting..

dunno why i even come to this unprofessional sorry excuse of a news site

Nix on October 7, 2008

So let me get this straight: The Hollywood Reporter, an industry magazine staffed with hundreds, probably THOUSANDS of writers and researchers puts out a story that “Max Payne” is Rated R, apparently having gotten the listing from the MPAA itself, and I report it as such (along with pretty much EVERY OTHER MOVIE SITE IN THE WORLD), and your big issue is that *I* reported what THR said, word for word? That, and that I’m “unprofessional” because I refuse to take the word of some anonymous reader who keeps insisting the movie is PG-13 when a big-time industry magazine says it’s R, and still says so even now, as of this writing? That either means you think WAY too much of yourself, Brandon, or you’re full of what the kids call “nature’s pudding”.

P.S. If your best jab at me is to keep saying how “unprofessional” I am, then you OBVIOUSLY haven’t been reading us for very long, or you would have known, um, better?

get a better source, hollywood reporter isnt shit excuse my french

when the movie releases AS a pg-13 film just remember who told you, the “anonymous” reader, they wrote up that story BEFORE he cut it to make a PG-13 cut.

maybe you should actually do research before copy/pasting news.

>>get a better source, hollywood reporter isnt shit excuse my french< <

Well Duh. I think it goes without saying that a news outlet that has been around since 1930 covering the same industry would never, ever have better sources than a guy name Brandon Varnell.

>>when the movie releases AS a pg-13 film just remember who told you, the “anonymous” reader, they wrote up that story BEFORE he cut it to make a PG-13 cut.< <

And when it's released as a PG-13 film I'll personally go to your house and congratulate you on being right, because, gosh, I don't know about you, Brandon, but I know that *I* spend all my days and nights hoping and praying that "Max Payne" gets that PG-13 rating. Because, you know, that's real important and junk, and I don't know how I'd go on if I wasn't right about "Max Payne's" theatrical rating. Please, please, give us that PG-13!!

>>maybe you should actually do research before copy/pasting news.<<

Yeah, I COULD do that, but then I wouldn’t have the pleasure of going back and forth with happy-go-lucky fellows like yourself. And I would NEVER deny myself that kind of joy. What’s the point of living if you can’t argue with some anonymous guy on the Internet about the rating for a movie neither of us have any investment in? God forbid!

ScreenRant.com on October 9, 2008

From MPAA.org:

Title: Max Payne (2008)
Rating: PG-13
Rating Reason: Rated PG-13 for violence including intense shooting sequences, drug content, some sexuality and brief strong

Brandon Varnell on October 18, 2008

What do you know, it got a PG-13 raiting..

Like i said get a better source, go out and do some actual journalism instead of copy/pasting news from other sources while trying to add “witty” comments

PS- im waiting for you to stop by my house.

Nix on October 18, 2008

Oh my God. A movie that neither one of us has any vested interest in has gotten a PG-13 rating just as you said! Dear God! How did you know? How in God’s name did you know?????? You must be, like, a God or sumthin’. Congratulations! Now go enjoy your sad, sad life beyond the interwebs.

Brandon Varnell on October 18, 2008

My life is fantastic, your journalism skills on the other hand.. not so much.

And it is not the point that its a movie i don’t care for and i am pretty sure you don’t, it’s the point that you just post stuff without checking actual FACTS, the fact that this got the green light for a PG-13 yet you still post R shows how much you actually care, you don’t.. which is sad.

Why even run this site? or post news? why not just rename it to beyondhollywoodrumorsanduncheckedinformation.com?

then again.. this is why this will remain a copy/paste blog site and nothing more.

Nix on October 18, 2008

Wow, I have “journalism skills”? That’s news to me, Brandon Varnell! But you know what’s sadder than my lack of caring about the rating for a movie that I will probably never see? That you refuse to accept that responsibility for the error lies with The Hollywood Reporter (but I guess arguing with them would be kinda tougher than going back and forth with little ol me, huh?), and that you actually came back here to claim victory over being right about said movie that I will never see. Congrats on being right about a topic neither one of us cares about, Brandon Varnell! Surely, you have much going on in the real world! I believe you!

P.S. I just copy/pasted the above BTW.
