Just a few days after announcing he plans to embark on another Spawn-related motion picture, Todd McFarlane has delivered another bombshell via Twitter: Spawn is returning to television in 2010. If you’re anything like me, you own the entire series on DVD, and prefer the animated show to the impossibly lame motion picture starring Michael Jai White and Martin Sheen, among others. I’ve often wondered why, exactly, McFarlane never revisited the cartoon version of his popular superhero, so it’s nice to see that he’s considering a return the to medium that actually managed to capture the spirit and tone of his comic books. And while it doesn’t really amount to much at all, here’s the post from the artist’s Twitter page that snagged my interest.
For those that’ve asked, the SPAWN ANIMATED show will be back in Hollywood’s face in 2010. Legal issues delayed it past few years.”
Will the show debut on HBO? We’ll have to wait and see, I suppose. Until then, I’ll revisit my DVDs and pray that the new movie and television series do the character justice. Stranger things have certainly happened.
