McFarlane Writing Spawn 2 Movie

Comic Book Movie News, Spawn (Reboot) Movie — By Nix on May 31, 2007

Comic book writer, artist, and toy maker Todd McFarlane has decided that the 1997 movie “Spawn”, based on his comic book series of the same name, is pure crap, and he wants to make a “Spawn 2″, except this Spawn will have no ties to the last Spawn movie, and McFarlane is tinkering with the idea of just calling this one “Spawn” again. Which, if true, would be really confusing. Personally I think it would be cooler if he called it, “Spawn 2: Pwnd”. Get it? Ah, well. Anyways, Bloody-Disgusting quotes McFarlane as saying about the new Spawn script he’s writing, “I can make a spooky, suspenseful thriller that will scare the crap out of you.” I don’t know what Todd is talking about; the first one scared the crap out of me — it was that awful.

A CIA agent killed by his own boss for witnessing his corruption, Al Simmons was sent to hell. To see his wife one more time, he made a deal with the demon Malebolgia to become an undead “hellspawn.” Spawn has tried to retain his own humanity while finding a way out of Malebolgia’s control and battling a variety of enemies, both supernatural and mafia-related.

I’m a huge comic book fan and collecter, but I’ll be honest and admit that I’ve never read a Spawn comic. However, I did see the movie, and I thought it was great. I know a whole bunch of people liked it too, so why not make a direct sequel to the 1997 movie? It was good.

But then again, the more hard-core fans of Spawn will be upset of course with the first film. I understand that completely. My favorite hero of all-time is The Punisher, and I was absolutely disgusted with the Tom Jane 2004 movie. And finally in 2008, they made Punisher: War Zone which is undeniably the best Punisher film ever…becuase it was done accurately. It was perfect.

So like The Punisher, a reboot could be the answer for Spawn. I’m just saying I liked the first Spawn. But like I said before, I’m not a BIG Spawn collecter or fan.

i guess we didnt see the same spawn movie back in 97. the movie i saw made me hope there was never a sequel! besides the horrible cgi, the story was seriously lacking. the only thing i found remotely redeeming about the spawn movie was the cameos of angela then at the end when you see sam and twitch. im glad todd final got the right idea but f that bull about spawn being a supporting character, for fuck sake don’t ruin this one too!

Spawn movie awesome? Well to quote John Leguizamo’s Clown “You were tied to the tracks and that “Stupid” train just kept running over didn’t it? Just runnin over you!!” Leguizamo was easily the best thing about that film. Michael Jai White and Martin Sheen were also decent, and good god was Theresa Randall hot as Wanda. Oh and Nicol Williamson as Cogliostro was great. Haven’t seen him since “Excalibur.” The suit looked great even today, but the effects don’t stand up, nor does the story. Seriously they need to do this right if at all. Make it follow Spawn, but the side story should follow Sam and Twitch as they follow up on the aftermath of Spawn’s dealings. Throw in Overtkill, Angela and/or Anti-Spawn/Redeemer and you got a movie.

Oh and the new animated Spawn is taking as long as the Lady Death anime. I hope it’s better than that. It wasn’t bad, just wasn’t that good.
