Because Michael Bay and his in-the-making “Ninja Turtles” reboot weren’t already skating uphill with fans of the property, the Bayster has now officially announced that Megan Fox will be starring in the reboot.
The director of the upcoming “Pain and Gain” and producer on “Ninja Turtles” made the announcement on his blog, writing (rather succinctly for Bay):
TMNT: we are bringing Megan Fox back into the family!
According to Variety, Fox will play longtime Turtles ally (and ace reporter) April O’Neil in the reboot, with a male lead still uncast. Word is, Fox beat out Jane Levy, Anna Kendrick and Elizabeth Olsen for the role. Or if she didn’t technically “beat” them out for the role, then the studio was meeting with those other lasses before deciding on Fox.
I guess this means Bay and Fox have made up after their very public spat between “Transformers” films that resulted in Fox being fired from the franchise. The cause of that, as you’ll recall, was Fox referring to Bay as “Hitler” on set and made other, um shall we say, less than flattering remarks about the director.
Fox has actually done well for herself post-“Transformers”. Granted, she’s fronted a couple of bombs, but she’s also smartly taken smaller roles in comedies like “Friends With Kids” and “This is 40” to show Hollywood she’s more than just a pretty face. Okay, so probably no one will be hiring Megan Fox to be the next Melissa McCarthy anytime soon, but as the eye candy of a new movie franchise starring alien turtle ninjas, you could do a lot worst than Megan Fox, I suppose.
Jonathan Liebesman (“Battle: L.A.”) will direct the reboot, which is currently scheduled for 2014.
