If you thought “Machete Kills”, the upcoming sequel to the Danny Trejo splatterific actioner “Machete” couldn’t get anymore whack (after all, how do you top Steven Seagal shoving a sword into his own belly? Or Robert DeNiro as a greedy, murderous redneck politician?), it just did: Robert Rodriguez and company are in “serious talks” with Mel Gibson to play a co-starring role in the movie.
Nope, this is not April, and that isn’t an April Fool’s joke. It’s real, folks.
“Machete Kills” would find Trejo, once again back as the soft-spoken but quick-on-the-machete ex-Mexican Federale, this time “drafted by the U.S. government to track an arms dealer through Mexico before he can launch a rocket.”
No word on what role Gibson would play, but it should be nuts. Ahem.
Also, in a curious (re: “out there”) bit of news on the movie, Rodriguez is also trying to talk Michelle Williams into joining the sequel. That, uh, seems like a major longshot there. Sure, you can get Michelle “Pissed Off Latina” Rodriguez and Jessica “I’m Too Good for Nude Scenes” Alba, but Michelle “Brokeback Mountain” Williams? That would be something to see.
