Notice the question mark. I didn’t put it there for no reason, you know. That’s because I don’t know. Well, is he or isn’t he? I guess we’ll find out pretty quickly. Sylvester Stallone should tweet an answer soon enough would be my guess. He’s good with the tweets when it comes to “Expendables 3″, that Sly.
But for now, Showbiz 411 is quoting unnamed sources as saying that Gibson has signed on to play the lead villain in the upcoming macho-a-thon, joining previous stars Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, and will include newcomers Wesley Snipes, Nicolas Cage, Milla Jovovich, and most surprising of all, Jackie Chan.
Now that sounds like a hell of a cast, if a tad overdone. It reminds me of Bryan Singer’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past”, which, at the moment, has so many mutants crammed into it that you get the feeling most of them won’t get more than a line or two of dialogue.
“The Expendables 3″ is starting to feel like that. I get that Stallone wants to keep going bigger and bigger with the sequels (you can’t exactly go smaller, can you?), but this is getting a little ridiculous. At least kill off some of the old characters to make room for the new ones, don’t just keep adding.
Then again, it seems to be working for the “Fast and Furious” franchise, so what do I know.
If this turns out to be true, “The Expendables 3″ will be the second villain role for Gibson in as many movies. He’s already playing the lead villain in Robert Rodriguez’s “Machete Kills”. This must be what happens when Hollywood decides you’re D.O.A. All you can get are bad guys roles. But hey, beats diggin’ ditches, amirite?
Patrick Hughes will direct the film, set for 2014.
