Mia Wasikowska is Tim Burton’s Alice

Written by Nix | July 24th, 2008 | 0 Comments |

So the big news is that Tim Burton’s big-budget take on Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” has finally ended its search for a leading lady — and it’s Australian actress Mia Wasikowska, from HBO’s “In Treatment”, and the upcoming Daniel Craig WWII movie “Defiance”. According to THR, the film will be “shot with live-action and performance-capture footage and presented in Disney Digital 3-D”, whatever that means. I’m not “down” with all this technical speak, but I’m guessing it’ll look all groovy and freakish. You know, your average Tim Burton film.

More about Wasikowska from THR:

Wasikowska got her start on the Aussie series “All Saints” and is a regular on HBO’s “In Treatment.” She next will appear opposite Daniel Craig in Ed Zwick’s war drama “Defiance” and just completed filming the role of a young Amelia Earhart fan in Mira Nair’s biopic “Amelia,” starring Hilary Swank.

I’m sure Burton will give us a pretty original take on the material, but I’m not sure it can beat my favorite “Alice in Wonderland” adaptation … EVER. At least, unless Burton gets an epiphany and hires Steve Buscemi as the Mad Hatter…
