Michael Bay Claims that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Will Be Aliens. Seriously.

Unpopular opinion of the century: I like Michael Bay. I’m not always forthcoming about my adoration for the much-maligned director, but I honestly enjoy his work. Sure, some of it may be more than a little goofy and a bit long in the tooth, but his output is almost always enjoyable. Save for “Pearl Harbor”, of course. At the 2012 Nickelodeon Upfront in New York City on March 14th, Bay decided to take a moment to explain a little bit about where the franchise is headed. Apparently our favorite ninja turtle heroes won’t be mutants anymore — they will be an “alien race” that’s “completely loveable”. We’ll just have to see about that. Truthfully, as long as the film is entertaining, I really don’t give an mutated rat’s ass about where they came from. I know that may piss off loyalists to the nth degree, but, again, I don’t care.

Director Jonathan Liebesman’s take on “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” lands in theaters on December 13th, 2013. When you’re ready, the video featuring Bay’s plans lies below.

Todd was raised on a steady diet of Hollywood blockbusters, late-night Cinemax programming, and USA’s “Up All Night,” which may explain why his taste in movies is more than a little questionable. When he isn’t providing news and reviews for Beyond Hollywood, he can be found lounging lazily on his couch, perched in front of his television, or dwelling in places where direct sunlight can be easily avoided. He's happily married, in his 30's, and totally badass. If you'd like to reach Todd, you can follow him on Twitter or send him email/scoops to todd (at) beyondhollywood.com.

I’m on occasional Michael Bay apologist. BAD BOYS II is one of the most insane action movies ever made, I love ARMAGEDDON. Hell, I watched THE ROCK last night. And I think that PEARL HARBOR is one of the best comedies of my generation.

I see the future Bay, you will ruin Turtles as you did Transformers, but then a saviour will rise and reboot both franchises successfully leaving your crappy adaptions in the gutter of terrible forgotten cinema.

WHAT THE HELL WRONG WITH YOU SON?!?!?!?!?!?! Look I don’t give a monkey ass on what Michael Bay want to A$$ R4P3 for money.BUT all these remakes have got to end. Worst of all, changing key part of a remake is starting to go way to far. Look you want to make a movie about alien from space who come to Earth then become trapped here and have to live underground. Have fun. Making a remakes by taking a crap a$$ script that’s totally unrelated. Rewrite the old trash to be more up to date. Them slapping a title of a old TV show that has a strong flowing and using those number for your opening return money. When is this S#1T going to end. Look Michael Bay can make a movie about JELLYFISH and make a $100,000,000.00 the opening weekend. Writing that it’s ok doesn’t help at all.

Armaggedon is a classic, as is the rock and even con-air, bad boys 2 is a perfect summer action pop corn movie. the transformers movies are great if you manage to stop needing to see the old optimus and the beetle bumblebee… and can look past the terrible human actors (im hoping for a fan edit of these movies with no sam wookie in it at all).

So lets face it the man can make bad ass movies with hot chicks and fantastic xplosions. i’m deff not ok with remakes and such but a new turtles movie would be pretty dope considering the leaps films have made in special effects and motion capture, in fact id say its almost necessary.

verdict? sold! as long as it isnt like the smurf movie kind of loveable this project should be pretty awesome!

WOW! Bay is bugging! I woulda dealt with an alien substance is what mutates them, then we can even get into the Triceratons and such but sheesh man! ALien turtles?!?

  • imrickjames

So does that mean that it’s now teenage alien ninja turtles? Anyway I don’t really care, people are complaining about Bay ruining the franchise but you know what? everyone complained about how bad they thought tmnt 2 and 3 were and how they didn’t really care for the animated movie. I really don’t think it can be any worst than that. It’ll be a descent entertaining film like most Bay films, whether their aliens or mutants has no effect on the over all story as they can alter it to fit this current story line.

I liked the animated movie. What I didn’t like was the villains. Need good villains!
      Sent on the go!

actually them being mutated by a scientist created goo fed their story lines for quite a bit of the cartoon series

  • Starcrusher_77

you CANT change them from mutants to aliens! thats absurd! 3/4 of the entire story is about how they came about from the ooze…if u change the story to aliens your plot will surely become something cliche’ and narrow and ruin it for the ones that are true fans
