Following weeks of speculation, it is now being reported that Michael Clarke Duncan is going to lend his deep-ass man-voice to the character of Kilowog in Warner’s upcoming adaptation of DC Comics’ “Green Lantern”. Duncan received an offer on Tuesday and is now negotiating the specifics of the deal.
Kilowog is a drill sergeant trainer of new recruits for the Green Lantern Corps, the intergalactic police force that patrols the universe.
Duncan, a hulking beast of a man, has ventured into comic book adaptations before, playing the Kingpin in “Daredevil”, and voiced a character in “Kung Fu Panda” for DreamWorks. Then there was that whole Oscar nomination thing he got for “The Green Mile”.
In addition to Duncan, “Green Lantern” stars Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, and Geoffrey Rush, who recently signed on to voice Tomar-Re. Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Angela Bassett, and Tim Robbins, are also in the cast, and Martin Campbell directs the whole shooting match.
“Green Lantern” opens June 17th. (I tried to make some brightest day/darkest night joke here, but couldn’t make it work. Sorry.)
