Michael Myers’ Halloween 3D Adventure Will Just Have to Wait

This isn’t really new news per se, but it certainly gives context to what we’ve already heard in regards to the “Halloween 3D” release date. Originally, Bob Weinstein had declared that a 3D version of “Halloween 3″ would be slicing its way into theaters by Summer 2010. Then Summer turned into October 2010 when Variety was doing a recent rundown of the films the Weinsteins have on their plate, although no explanation was given for the date change.

According to Deadline Hollywood, we may know why Summer 2010 turned into October 2010. The original idea was to quickly get “Halloween 3D” into production by November of ‘09, but a series of problems, including the questionable availability of director Patrick Lussier and the fact that a first draft has just recently been turned in, has convinced the Weinsteins to hold off production on the sequel until Lussier finishes up work on another film for producer Ali Lerner, and we presume, polishes on the script is made.

The article doesn’t mention the other film Lussier is committed to doing, but I’m assuming it’s “Drive Angry” with Nicolas Cage, also set to be shot in the ever-popular 3D. Seriously, this whole 3D thing is getting out of hand; it’s become almost as ubiquitous and equally as annoying as Twitter. But that’s a rant for another day…

DHD says the plan is to still make the sequel, since the “Halloween” films were made on a relatively low budget so the threshold for “success” is pretty low to begin with. Both films, despite the tamed box office numbers of the second movie, are profitable, and in Hollywood that means sequels come hell or high water.

So don’t worry, kids, Michael will still try to gut you in 3D. You’ll just have to wait a few extra months, that’s all.
