And just about any movie that needs a tough-talking, gun-packing, deceptively hot senorita who doesn’t mind getting killed sometime near the end of the film. That’s Michelle Rodriguez’s Hollywood career in a nutshell. A far cry from when she broke onto the scene with the gritty 2000 boxing flick “Girlfight”.
Anyways, the trades are now confirming that Rodriguez, who has been killed off almost as much as Sean Bean (though to be fair to our gal, Bean has been working much, much longer), will indeed return for Robert Rodriguez’s “Machete” sequel — the imaginatively titled “Machete Kills” — and the sixth installment in Universal’s “The Fast and Furious” franchise. Amazingly enough, Rodriguez managed to survive the first “Machete” movie, with its obscene amount of bloodletting and armory of weaponry. Go figure.
Of course, death isn’t going to stop Michelle Rodriguez’s characters from returning. She supposedly died in one of the “Fast and Furious” movies, as you’ll recall. Likewise, she died in the first “Resident Evil” movie, and she’s already shot a role for the recent entry, “Resident Evil: Retribution”. Death can’t stop a saucy Latina, it can only hope to slow her down.
Meanwhile, we also know a little bit more about “Machete Kills”, including what character Mel Gibson will be playing.
In the sequel, Danny Trejo’s titular badass is recruited by the U.S. Guv’ment to stop a terrorist named Mendez the Madman, aka Mexico’s leading cartel dealer, while also having to contend with Gibson’s character, one Luther Voz, who is described as “a cunning arms dealer and death merchant who aims to spread war across the planet by launching a missile.” It would be a real riot if Gibson was also kind of a douche in the movie. A racist, foul-mouthed, screaming-at-the-top-of-his-lungs racist douche.
