Michelle Williams is the Good Witch in Sam Raimi’s Oz

Huh. I didn’t know there were three witches in Sam Riami’s “Oz The Great and Powerful”. I always thought it was two witches, the good one set to be played by Mila Kunis, and the bad one, rumored to have Rachel Weisz in negotiations.

According to Variety, though, there are three witches, and the good one, Glinda, will be played by Michelle Williams. Kunis and Weisz, meanwhile, will play Glinda’s evil witch sisters. I guess this means Weisz has officially signed onto the film, which makes you wonder where that leaves Universal’s “The Bourne Legacy”, where Weisz was being sought to play the female lead.

In the Sam Raimi-directed film, Glinda teams up with a snake oil salesman to be played by James Franco, a huckster who eventually becomes the Oz of the title, in order to save the populace from her evil witch sisters.

Raimi is directing for Disney, from a script by Mitchell Kapner and David Lindsay-Abaire. “Oz The Great and Powerful” will be a prequel to “The Wizard of Oz” that pretty much everyone has seen.
