The gaming company’s latest “Call of Duty” title, “Modern Warfare 3” has shattered all 5-day games sale records with a whopping $775 million in worldwide buckos. That means “MW3” has now become the biggest selling game of all time in the span of 5 days, beating last year’s “Black Ops” (another COD title) by a good $125 million and the last “Modern Warfare” title by well over $225 million.
To put it another way, there’s a reason why when you try to log online to play a multiplayer match in the game’s first week you got a lot of lag and plenty of server issues. There were a lot of you on the Interwebs trying to frag each other all at the same time. Don’t expect that number to go down anytime soon, especially with Christmas on the horizon. On the plus side, all those Christmas noobs who gets the game for Christmas will help you rank up that much faster. They, you know, kinda suck at the game.
Activision is, of course, ecstatic about the news, especially with last year’s “Black Ops” and “Modern Warfare 2” still pretty high up there in terms of online replay value. Heck, you can still find plenty of people playing “Call of Duty: World at War” at this very moment. As good as the single player campaigns are, and gets progressively better, the honest truth is that the entire gaming line is built on its online replay value, something that the COD games are incredibly good at.
Need I say it? Expect Treyarch, Activision’s other COD game developer, to hurry up with a “Black Ops” follow-up just in time for next year’s Holidays…
