Moonlight the Movie? Producer Says it’s Possible.
Horror Movie News, Moonlight TV Series, TV News — By Nix on July 1, 2009
I never got into CBS’ Moonlight, their sorta supernatural cop show where the good guy (played by Alex O’Loughlin) was a vampire who solved cases involving vampires and the like. The gorgeous Sophia Myles played a Lois Lane type who starts to figure out the P.I. might be more than he’s letting on. The show got canceled after one season, but according to producer Harry Werksman, that doesn’t mean the show needs to end right there.
Werksman gave hope for the show’s legion of fans by telling SciFiWire this:
“Well, we were setting up in the end of our first season that there was a coming war. There was the family from which Coraline came, and it was a royal bloodline of vampires that Mick had been brought into, very much unwanted on his part. I think what we were going to try and do is to have the movie encapsulate the entire second season of the coming war.
“I know I talked to [the show's star Alex O'Loughlin] just a couple weeks ago, after Three Rivers got picked up, and I was congratulating him,. He’s like, ‘When are we going to do the movie?’ I said, ‘I don’t know, man. Any time you’re ready.’”
So the producer and the star wants to do it. A made-for-TV movie, perhaps? Or a feature-length film? With the current vampire craze, I don’t see why a movie version wouldn’t work. And if all else fails, they can always go the comic book route like Joss Whedon did with his Buffy and Angel properties. I’ve read the Angel comic series, and they’re actually very good.
Below: “Okay, guys, cool pose off in one, two, three!”

It is good to see how excited everyone is for a Moonlight movie, and Tish and Dyann know of my own personal quest for a return of the series. I have been writing letters for months going between Joel Silver and the agents and then the entire WB people. If everyone is so excited, please take a few minutes out of your busy lives and let you fingers do the work. All you need do is write one body of a letter and just go back in and change the address and people’s names. Please. We need to let everyone know that we have not snuck off quiety into the night. We won’t be appeased by CBS bringing Alex back into the fold with Three Rivers. It’s Moonlight that we love and that is the only thing that will appease us Moonlight fans. Please just think if everyone wrote letters and asked their friends and family to do the same, just think of the mail delivery. These people will be bombarded with mail for Moonlight. I personally go to the CBS feedback part of their website on a weekly basis asking for Moonlight (I know Tish they don’t own the rights, but I want them to realize the mistake they made). I am polite and I point out how many new fans are out there and growing thanks to the airing on the SyFy network. We have to stand as a united front. Not come across as nuts, but people that care for a show and will do anything it takes to bring it back. Peacefully. Okay people, let’s get out there and start writing our letters.
If you want to MOONLIGHT at the movies than write a letter and ask for it—I mean you need say no more than what you posted here. I’ts enough to fill up the mailbags with mail saying we want it—you don’t have to write a book about it!
WHAT MATTERS IS THE FANS SAYING I’LL GO SEE THIS, SUPPORT THIS, I WANT TO SEE MOONLIGHT RISE AGAIN ON THE BIG SCREEN!
Can’t wait to see MOONLIGHT made into a movie! What with the excellent photography and lighting of the original show, the Big Screen would bring out all the extra effort that went into the making of it!
Please, please make a Moonlight movie. It was the best show and deserved to be on air for many more seasons. The show was wonderful escapism, and the cast had tremendous appeal and brought their characters to life. And there was something magic about Moonlight with the sets, the lighting–semi film noir, and the music that set the mood. Moonlight was very appealing and its fine quality belongs in the big screen. Moonlight will always have a special place in my heart.
Great to read this S N & Becca, but just saying it here is only letting other fans know… Now go to the older comments on the first page of this article & find the addresses you will need to write letters to the powerful people who can make a Moonlight movie happen…
I have been fighting for more ML in anyway possible for over 2 years now, I also began a Moonlight Movie Crusade on various site (even had the help of the administrator of DiscoverGerry.net as she posted the original thread for me & my friend, Dyann because Mischa may love Gerry but she is also a ML fan as well… Unlike many fansites for ML this is mainly a letter writing crusade, so please get those letters written, beginning with Joel Silver, Exec Prod of ML TV series, as this is what will get noticed…
i really really really want there to be a second moonlight its great xxx
Moonlight is the best tv show hands down i’ve ever watched. They should make the movie, ill be crossing my fingers.
Hey Moonlight Fans, Alex & all its cast members fans,
It is past due to get our beloved Moonlight into a movie, or I would love to see a series of movies…Not comic books please, the real thing with Alex O’Loughlin as out favorite vampire called Mick St John, Sophia Myles as his love interest playing Beth Turner (OMG, the chemistry of those two is unmatchable), Jason Dohring as the suave, rich entrepreneur vampire with really a good heart, & Shannyn Sossoman as Coraline as the alluring vampire, ex-wife of Mick St John, but also falls into the JR Ewing category of the woman we most love to hate…
The latter 3 cast members are not terminally tied down to any formal contract to date that I am aware of but our Alex is in a new show that is being booed by every critic nationwide, was already canceled in AU, his native land… It is again not Alex’s fault but the dismal depressing storyline of organ transplants & of the 3 shows already aired, ratings were not good, what’s worse many fans of Alex are only watching to support him & really cannot stand the show itself..And the medical info has not been accurate to boot… Poor, poor Alex signing again last year with CBS, if his agents cared about him and his real potential in acting, which would also pad their own pockets handsomely, they would pull him from that contract.. What reason? Because CBS is not doing right by Alex careerwise… IMO, like many fans, feel the real reason is that CBS feels it has a score to settle with fans who will not let it die forever & keep fighting to get more and/or a completion to the storyline & with Joel, who wanted more of a realistic Brahms Stoker gutsy show (not dripping blood but a bit more action to bring in more male viewers apparently, not to say the beauties like Sophia, Shannyn & all female members of the cast were not attracting) but Les Moonves put the cabash on that and pulled Moonlight from CBS & ML Fans who felt cheated and lied to… (Did you know that not even the cast was told until its completion that “Sonata”, the 16th & last episode filmed and seen, was their final performances in ML?)
I wish Alex only the best, feel strongly, however, he will not get a great chance a complete stardom, in his own right, until he frees himself of the shackles of CBS… Come on Alex, please!!!!! It is not that we do not want you to move on with your career, but most feel that CBS will block the true fame you deserve and can achieve in this country, the USA… Don your Mick fangs, bite CBS where even Moonlight would not want to shine again & fulfill your coveted role that made you a household US name in a movie, mini-series, or a series of consecutive ML movies as Twilight is being filmed as…
Next time I comment on this site I would like to see many more comments from different fans posting saying they are writing many letters, a couple a month, to Joel Silver and all of the Executives of Warner Brothers…Why Warner Brothers?
1) WB owns all the rights to Moonlight, not CBS… Perhaps Joel may also own some rights to it as well…
2) Joel was the Executive Producer who brought us Moonlight after his pilot was accepted for viewing by CBS… Joel is the main man that can make a Moonlight movie happen…
Write to Joel at:
Joel Silver,
President and Executive Producer
Silver Pictures
c/o Warner Brothers Studios
4000 Warner Blvd
Burbank, CA, 91522
You can also write to the Sub-executives of WB in charge of movies and filming at the Warner Brothers Studios address above…
They would be…
Alan F. Horn, President & Chief of Operations Officer at WB
and
Jeff Robinov, Production President of WB Pictures Group…
Yes bring back moonlight even if it is a movie. Just as long as it comes back and needs to have Alex, Sophia and Jason in it.
I refuse to believe such a great show can just be canned.
If the movie is made and brought out I would diffidently go see it in the cinemas, which there isn’t a lot of movie’s I’d do that for, haven’t gone in over a year to see a movie, also would watch it if it was a movie made for TV, plus buy the DVD.
