The Avengers (2012) Movie Set Image

Can’t get enough of Captain America, the Black Widow, and Hawkeye running around the New York City set of Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers” fighting mysterious (re: unseen) villainy? You’re in luck. More pics of Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, and Jeremy Renner on set.

POTENTIAL SPOILERS BELOW

Nice to see Captain America leading the charge against the bad guys in these set pics, even if he does look a tad, well, average-ish. (Compared to how he looked in “Captain America: The First Avenger”, anyway.) I don’t know what Evans was doing before he jumped back into the Captain’s suit, but he seems to have lost a lot of that superhuman feel about him. Either that, or this new costume they have him wearing is just not doing him justice whatsoever. Nothing wrong with Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow, though, and I’m warming to Hawkeye’s Ultimate guy-with-a-bow look.

Bad guy Tom Hiddleston battles Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Clark Gregg, and Cobie Smulders in “The Avengers” next year, May 4th.

For whatever reason Cap looks fat, a la Toby Maguire in Spiderman 3.

      Yes!

I figured it out, it’s the helmet/mask of Cap that’s driving me nuts!

He literally looks like the guy from Kickass in some of those images thanks to it.

Chris Evans looks like he lost alot of his muscle and doesn’t fit the suit all that well.

  • Juggernaut

Chris Evans should be in the next Pirates Of The Carribean movie because he already has a sunken chest! LOL!

  • Please

I so hope this does not suck!

I’m gonna agree that yes it appears that Evans has lost a lot of the muscle mass he had in TFA, but you’ve gotta look at it realistically. I go to the gym a lot, I lift weights and I can tell you from firsthand experience that maintaining the kind of physical shape Evans was in requires you to live in the gym almost 24/7. I knw people are going to compare him to Helmsworth, but IMO Evans’ body went through a much more drastic transformation. The dude was a little ripped but not ridiculously so; then he came out in TFA looking like a monster!! Helmsworth was already big to begin with; he just needed muscle DEFINITION as opposed to Evans who built definition and MASS. Last thing, look at their subsequent roles. Each has one movie coming out before the Avengers (Helmsworth has THE CABIN IN THE WOODS and RED DAWN but I believe both of those were shot before THOR). Evans’ film is a rom-com while Helmsworth’s is a fantasy adventure. Seeing as how Helmsworth was probably going to be required to train for that film as well, it was probably easier for him to maintain his workout routine from THOR, carry it over to SNOW WHITE and THE AVENGERS. With Evans, I don’t think him walking on the set of a rom-com looking like a super soldier would have been conducive to his role. Just a thought. It is a little weird seeing Evans go from essentially a Greek god back to a normal guy but I don’t think it’ll detract from the film as a whole. After all, if they just wanted a buff guy to wear the suit I’m sure there’s dozens of guys they could’ve picked for the role. They went with Evans because of how HE portrayed the character, and I think that’s more important than his chest measurements.

Agreed on the character thing. And its funny I was thinking the same thing over the weekend while reading comments on Evans. I was thinking to myself how he’d been on ice for almost 70 years and he wouldn’t come out looking as big. As you said to keep the size up you gotta keep the training up, unless you’re a God of Thunder. And you’re point about Hemsworth’s size and build are also on point. He was huge even in “Star Trek” and he’d have only had to build definition and as cut as Evans was before, he was HUGE IN Cap!

I see what your saying. I’m not trying to take anything away from Evans’ portrayal of Cap in CATFA. He was perffect in my opinion. It would be nice if he could have kept that physique for the Avengers too but I digress. I understand that these actors have other projects besides just the superheroe movies, although sometimes I tend to forget that. In my mind their total focus should be on these roles. LOL! That being said, it makes sense that Evans fit the roles of those projects. That would cut into his training.

he was paid alot of money to maintain captains size. And i for one thin if you say yes to such a role you need to live in the gym. It does hurt continuity. Evens complained in interviews about eating right and working out. he pulled off the super hero look in tfa but i think he looks like a skinny teenage in avengers.
