More Details on Hawkeye’s Costume in Thor and The Avengers, Hulk’s Role

As you may have read yesterday, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye will not only be bringing his bow and arrow to Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers” when the superheroes team up in 2012, but he’ll also be making an extended cameo in Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming “Thor” in a few months. (You can check out details of that “Thor” appearance here.) But what will he look like when she shows up to take a bead on Thor?

While still over at CinemaCon, SHH sat through the Disney presentation, who made a big deal about handling “The Avengers”, and introduced everyone to their first look at Hawkeye’s costume. In short, it looks like they’re going with the Ultimate Hawkeye version:

Basically, Hawkeye’s costume is going to be very similar to the Ultimates version of the character… In the concept art, we see Renner wearing similar dark glasses and a leather outfit with a matching over-the-shoulder leather quill for his arrows, only the movie version of Hawkeye has the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo emblazoned on it to show his government allegiances. His precision bow is much like the one used by archers who do it for sports and hunting, which again, is also much like the Ultimates Hawkeye has in the picture to the left.

For those not in the know, they’re basically talking about the Hawkeye shown in the pic above, left, and not the familiar purple, more comic book-y look. Hey, as long as they don’t give him some guns like in the later “Ultimates” series, I’m cool with it.

SHH also confirms that the Hulk will be more hero than villain in “The Avengers”, and this is coming straight from Mark Ruffalo himself. So without the Hulk to bring the superteam together to fight, who would the enemy be? Um, I’m guessing they’ll be green, too, but not exactly pumped full of gamma radiation…

Sent this in especially for Juggy and Ulik!! Sounding good guys.
As for the guns, I think he should carry two side arms just in case, but he should nevber be out to kill with them. Make him like “The Phantom” where he only aims to disarm, or immobilize, plus that would show off his marksmanship with them. ANyone can shoot a person, not everyone can shoot a gun out of hand or something small to that effect.

    • Juggernaut

Thanks man! And you’re absolutely right. He is a master marksman. Why should he be limited to only using the bow and arrow. While obviously his weapon of choice is the bow and arrow, he should still be able to use a sidearm or another firearm if needed. Also, the S.H.I.E.L.D. emblem makes total sense. Hawkeye is an agent after all. Like Black Widow in IM2 it fits. I wonder if they’ll introduce Mockingbird at all?! A Black Widow/Mockingbird throwdown would be sweet! I also wonder if Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill will make an appearance. As for Hulk, while I’d like to see earth’s mightiest tracking down a rampaging green goliath, the Skrull angle fits better with Marvel’s unfolding universe. Adding the cosmic aspect into the mix opens up a lot more of Marvel’s stable of characters to be used in these films.

Why giving him an bow if he´s got guns to use? Makes no sense. Either stick with him relying on bow an arrow (because of a certain kind of code of honor or because of a hatred towards firearms) or forget to whole archer stuff!

        • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Nix

He’s Hawkeye. He’s a bow and arrow guy. Give him guns and he’s not Hawkeye anymore. That’s his thing. It doesn’t have anything to do with “realism”.

          • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool

I’m not disagreeing, but what i am saying is as an agent I can see him having one, but he should never have to use it or unholster it. As a matter of fact there should be a scene where he either looses the bow or it breaks and he has to rely on something else, and he chooses throwing knives. When asked “Why didn’t you just use your side arm?” he’d respond “Where’s the fun in that?” or “They make me carry this thing, I never use it.”

          • Juggernaut

Your one liners about the gun are great. I like both but the “They Make me carry this thing..” line is gold. The scene I have in mind for that line is Hawkeye, Hill and Fury are in the hellicarrier above the battle between Thor and The Destroyer Armor. While they are standing around a conferrence table discussing their plan of attack. The back is open and the wind is rustling papers, maps and various blueprints on the table. As the paperwork begins to scatter Hawkeye draws his sidearm and nonchalantly tosses it on top of the pileusing it as a makeshift paper weight. He then delivers the line, “They make me carry this thing. I never use it.” with a roguish charm. Sam Jackson delivers his trademark “Oh really!” look. He draws his bow and an arrow from his quill and heads for the open hatch.

            That would be classic!

        • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool

I actually like that idea of the code of honor. That’d be cool. A scene in Avengers where Tony looks at him and says “Bow and arrows? Kinda low tech and old school isn’t it?” with the response “I can do more with this bow than most S.W.A.T. guys can do with an arsenal.”

          • Juggernaut

Again, classic! That needs to be in there. He could even say something back to Tony like, “I don’t need the bells and whistles.”

          • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool

I like that. Add it to what I said and it’s classic Clint. “I can do more with this bow than most S.W.A.T. guys can do with an arsenal…plus I don’t need the bells and whistles.”

      • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool

Agreed on the Hulk front, however I think jumping into Skrulls with the first film is a bit much. It’s like starting with a bang, any thing else is going to pale in comparison.

As for Hawkeye I agree with you on all fronts, from the meblem to the sidearms. Black Widow vs Mockingbird I don’t see (why would they be fighting, unless we’re going with the traitorous Widow from Ultimates) but I definitely wouldn’t mind seeing it lol. Cobie as Hill will probably debut in “Avengers.”

        • Juggernaut

I agree to a certain point about the Skrull. While that storyline is epic and may be going too big too soon it is also the story with the most immediate threat and justifacation of the formation of the Avengers. I would have liked to see the Hulk taken out in a first film but I can live with them glossing over it. However, the after credits scene in The Incredible Hulk lead on that the “Team” that Tony was forming would be going after General Ross’ “Problem”. I guess he could have meant that he wanted to recruit the Hulk for the team, but I didn’t take it that way.

          • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool

I get what you’re saying and yeah I didn’t take it that way either.

            Sent on the go.

          • Juggernaut

Who knows, maybe Banner will be on the run from S.H.I.E.L.D. and the avengers by the time the Avengers film gets here. They could refference it in Thor,CA:TFA or even Ironman 3, providing it hits before the Avengers film drops. Even a montage in the opening of the Avengers movie would be cool. They could always integrate the two and have the Hulk plot going on at the same time as the Skrull invasion. The coolest thing would be if Marvel was just trying to swerve everyone and the first Avengers movie be about them stopping The Hulk and end it with something like the Skrull threat being revealed in the final minutes.

          • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool

            That’s what I was thinking.

If the movie does things right, the gun question will be moot. One of the only things in “Iron Man 2″ that worked was Black Widow and I don’t think anyone even noticed she was packing because her one big action scene was so killer. Hopefully the same will apply to Hawkeye

      • Juggernaut

I totally agree. They don’t really need to address it. Good call.

I don’t get what your saying about they make me carry things, that line sounds terrible, and the paper wieght thing is bad, if paper is flying around a slow mo arrow should glide acroos the room and then zoom up on the arrow and along the side of it it spells out HAWKEYE with the shield emblem and then go back to being normal speed and the arrow cuts through every single paper, pinning it to the wall, then to get rid of that stupid gun, which I don’t think hawkeye needs, he says, “eh, eh see what I can do with my bow and arrows, I don’t need no compulsive shield gun.”
Nick Fury, “But as you said it is compulsary”
Hawkeye “Do you want me to make you blind in your other eye?!”

I think that in the Thor and captain America movies you should see in CA after going on an arctic expodition he returns and gets congratulated and the girl in the trailer should say, “well done agent Rogers but where is Bucky?”
CA “He unfortunately was sent to a better place little missy, but let us all remember him in spirit.”
When she gives him a hug and sheds a tear she could say your a good man Steve, I know that you would’ve done your best.”
Then he walks away to a room where you can see his back, he takes out a communicator and you hear him say “they’ve fallen for it, uninterlectual humans, we will over throw them, then he will rule the universe and you see him with an extra large skrull chin ofcourse green and then a smile.”
Then you see in the arctic that CA is in some sort of pod with property of the skrulls faded on it and then some where else a far bit away from CA but still in the arctic bucky in the same thing.

    Thor same thing maybe

    • Juggernaut

Who that was bad. Really bad. I like the Secret Invasion tie to Cap that you threw in at the end of CA:TFA but other than that AWFUL! Those lines and scenarios wouldn’t be in the 1990 Albert Pyun let alone a feature film. A slow motion shot of an arrow with “Hawkeye” etched on it??? Hawkeye, a S.H.I.L.D. agent, a proffesional government operative for one of the most respected and prestegeous organizations in the world, would threaten a superior officer?! I don’t think so. He can be cocky. He can be smug. He cannot threaten his director.
As far as the dialect between Steve Rogers and “The girl in the trailer”, her name is Peggy Carter by the way, that is soap opera drivell! Nobody talks like that. I understand that they are supposed to be in the 1940′s and all but even then they didn’t spout such clunky, cheese filled lines. This is a Hollywood film with a professional writing staff, cast and director, not Saturday mornig cartoons Chief.

        LMAO!!!

      • Ironfist fan# rogernator5000

Yeah I know, all I wanted to do was put in the secret invasion thing but I had to do something about what CA would say, maybe u can do better, but yeah I like the secret invasion idea I had… THATS ALL LOL

        • Juggernaut

I was just being a dick. Lol.
The Secret Invasion angle would be cool. However, I see the ending going a little differently. I think that the final shot of the film will be of Bucky being discovered by either Hydra or A.I.M. somewhere in Russia or the Ukraine in a similar vessel as the one that was previuosly described in the opening sequence of the film that Cap was encased in. There may be an after credits scene setting up either the Secret Invasion angle or introducing another character like Ant-Man. They might even throw in a scene where Black Widow is shown as a Hydra operative double agent! That would be cool. Then going into the Avengers flick you know that one of their own is a mole. The audience would then figure that she would be the enemy (along with Hydra) and be completely swerved when the Skrull appear. Then again this is all speculation. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

          • Ironfist fan# rogernator5000

Yeah, I sure hope Hawkeye gets a black widow thing where he has a major fight scene with humour, I also hope if the Avengers has sequels (God help make this happen) I also hope that hawkeye does not turn into Ronin, I want him to stay the archer Hawkeye, not the shuriken throwing, nunchuk spinning, sword striking Ronin, gah!, also there can’t be that much stuff in after credits for Captain America, and wouldn’t Black Widow be to young to join hydra in the same year Bucky get’s found, any way just let Bucky get found. I would prefer another character to be involved instead of bucky, maybe bucky can be shown in a capsule with no arm and then the credits come, and at the end you see Hank Pymm, in his lab suit with is name tag on it, maybe his wife Janet can be there and she asks for him to fix something, or get something high, and he opens up his lab coat revealing a giantman shirt with the V thing going down to the belt then you see it increase… The End

Can’t wait for the movies, gonna see thor when it hits, omg Hawkeye make me proud

      • Ulik

        Good reply, I totally agree.

  • 0ptik

I had a question for you knowledgeable people.

Did hulk always have its own conscience? (like jekyll and hyde) I noticed in some comics he does, but sometimes he’s just an angry fragmented version of bruce banner. (animal side of him, if you will)

    • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Nix

They started out as two individual personalities that became integrated, I believe.

      • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool

They were indeed. By Doc Samson. That lasted for a bit but then they became seperate personalities again, with the hulk being a coherent personality. They now make compromises about the merger.

        Sent on the go.

Hawkeye is a Weapons Master and a Stealth Operative; he was professionally trained in unarmed and armed combat. He is proficient with all projectiles such as throwing knives, darts, arrows, and whatever else that’s available that he can use to his advantage in a situation(similar to Bullseye). Hawkeye is also proficient with swordplay, because he was taught by “The Swordsman” and he was taught the bow and arrow by “Trickshot”. In the comics, Hawkeye received further hand to hand combat training from Captain America but I’m sure for sake of the movie, it would be through S.H.I.E.L.D’s combat training and other training elsewhere before his enrollment there. I don’t see the problem with Hawkeye using a gun in extremely close quartered situations whereas the situation may call for it at times. I’d love to see Hawkeye show all of his talents, but leave the most badass parts for the bow and arrows. That’s his “signature” weapon of choice and a great silent weapon that can be shown to have better advantages than a gun-suppressor. A cross bow for short distances and a long bow for long distances even sounds ideal. The main thing is his impeccable aim, he rarely if ever misses plus the trick arrow effects would be awesome too. One last thing that would be cool is to see him flying his personal “glider” just like in the comics!!!

    • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool

YOU just rocked that!! Good stuff!

    • Juggernaut

Agreed 100%! I think that a shot of the glider would be a great easter egg in either IM3 being built by Tony or in Ant-Man or Avengers flick being constructed by Henry Pym. There should definately be some trick arrows (exploding, smoke, electrified) that would be awsome.
