I love the fact that Tsui Hark is remaking his own movie, which was itself a remake. I guess he just really digs the story. Or maybe it’s that whole 3D thing that he might want to try out. Okay, so there’s really no real reason to remake the movie (again), but whatever, he’s Tsui Hark and I’m not, and he can do whatever he wants. Besides, if this new full-length trailer for “The Flying Swords of Dragon Gate” is any indication, the action looks pretty spiffy — if you don’t mind extensive and overly obvious wireworks in your martial arts movie, that is.
The trailer is in Chinese, so I haven’t a clue what it’s about. According to Wildgrounds, though, there is an evil Queen, pregnant concubines, and something about a lost city under the desert. Plus, this:
The story is set during the Ming Dynasty, a powerful eunuch has violently crushed revolts, establishing a reign of terror. With his troops, he’s now chasing the remaining rebels. Which are stuck in the Dragon Inn, a place for thieves, assassins…
The kung fu film (in 3D!!!) stars Jet Li, Zhou Xun, Chen Kun, Kwai Lun-Mei, Li Yuchun, and Mavis Fan.
The film swings into Chinese theaters this December.
