Is it just me, or do these new images (and pretty much all of the images that have been released so far) for “Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans” almost always covered in a blue steel-ish tint? I guess new director Patrick Tatopoulos is just going along with what Len Wiseman did for the previous two movies, although for some reason I expected the prequel to be a little less, well, tint-y. Anyways, our tale of forbidden love and vampires versus werewolves is set to open later this month, and word is it will finally fill us in on the cause of the ancient struggle between the two sides that have continued on into our modern world. Although from the trailers, I’m going to go out on the limb and guess it’s because the vampires are real jerky jerkheads.
The prequel story traces the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires known as Death Dealers and their onetime slaves, the Lycans. In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian (Sheen) emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, Sonja (Mitra), in his battle against the Death Dealer army and his struggle for Lycan freedom.
Starring Michael Sheen, Bill Nighy, Rhona Mitra, Shane Brolly, and Kevin Grevioux. Former special effects man Patrick Tatopoulos makes his directorial debut with the flick.
Get your fill of way too much blue steel tint January 23, 2009.
