More Hunky Hunks Testing for The Amazing Spider-Man 2′s Harry Osborn

Harry Osborn as the Green Goblin Comic BookAt this point, it might be easier to list all the names of young, hunky Hollywood actors who aren’t screen testing for Marc Webb’s “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″, which is currently looking for a handsome and athletic actor to play Harry Osborn, Peter Parker’s bestest bud in the upcoming sequel.

The four gents currently up for the role of Harry Osborn are a trio of Brits led by Sam Clalfin (last seen in “Snow White and the Huntsman”), Eddie Redmayne (Sean Bean’s traveling companion in “Black Death”), and Douglas Booth (soon to be seen in Darren Aronofsky’s bible epic “Noah”). The lone American in this latest batch of Hollywood hunks testing for the role is Boyd Holbrook, soon to be seen in Andrew Niccol’s “The Host”.

Webb will return to direct, with Andrew Garfield also back as Peter Parker aka Spider-Man. Emma Stone will likewise return as Spidey’s girlfriend Gwen Stacy, with latest It Girl Shailene Woodley joining the cast as Mary Jane Watson.

James Franco brooded his way through Sam Raimi’s original “Spider-Man” trilogy, but apparently the producers of Webb’s would-be trilogy are looking for a more athletic and handsome version of Harry Osborn. In the comics and in Raimi’s original trilogy, Harry Osborn is Spider-Man’s best friend who becomes one of his greatest enemy, following in the footsteps of his evildoer father Norman.

I wonder why they don’t just keep using Chris Zylka from the first movie?

What about Dane Dehan from “Chronicle” I heard he’s in talks too.

Yeah, he was in the first batch of actors testing, but from the sounds of it (and this latest batch) they’re going the hunky and sporty direction with Harry.

Ah gotcha. Makes sense, I think a Harry that is good looking, and athletic and such but just okay in the smarts makes sense, as if he was trying to maek up for his shortcomings to impress his father.

See I was always of the opinion that Harry was more the brooding, sensative type. That was why I was never able to get behind James Franco in the role. He’s too charming and handdsome for Harry. FDeehan would be perfect. Redmayne is a good choice too.

Agree on Redmayne! And yes that’s how Harry has been played like that in the past but I think they’re looking to go a different direction with that and I’m okay with that. With Flash now being his friend, I can see him inviting him to a party meeting Harry and hitting it off. From there they can build the relationship as they see fit.

Well assuming the Amazing Spiderman is actually based on Ultimate Spiderman, which it looked to me like it was. It would make sense to not make Harry the brooding kid that you just want to punch.

Well all the Marvel films kind of mix and match. Spectacular Spiderman the cartoon was a mix of the ultimate, the films, and the mainstream comic.

Chris Zylka was playing Flash Thomson.

Yah, I know. Flash would make a better best friend/turned/enemy. Plus, it would actually be something NEW. As is, this trilogy will eventually end up exactly the same as Raimi’s in every way, so what’s so “new” about it?

      • Juggernaut

That would have been a really cool and interesting way to go! Having the films eventually lead into thet Venom spin-off that Sony has been yammerin’ about since Spider-Man 3 came out. Especially if they went with the latest version.

True very True! The ultimate Spiderman cartoon (which i have a love/hate relationship with) did some new stuff and it really worked. This new trilogy could go the route you’re suggesting, and personally i think flash as Venom has been a lot more interesting than any of the stories with Eddie in the suit. if anything I’d set it up as two trilogies, the first to get a few more classic villains in like Mysterio, Electro, and a new take on the Green Goblin like a cross between the ultimate and mainsteam version. The second trilogy would introduce the black suit in the first film and get it off him by the second, have flash get it in the second realize who Spidey is and the jealousy take over and drive him and have it played for tension with him stalking peter and friends and showing up to really get under Peter’s skin by letting him know whats up, and finally the confrontation. third film would be a redemption of Flash as Venom where he and Spidey team up against the sinister Six, leading to Flash’s “Death” where which he fakes and disappears and we get a Venom spinoff.

I was really hoping for Flash being the friend because in the comics he is the new Venom (and an agent of SHIELD) which could tie in with the other Marvel Cinematic Universe and give ALL film some sort of continuity

NOPE!!! As long as Sony has Spiderman they’ll probably keep that to themselves. A Venom spinoff can stillbe done though.
