Can’t get enough of Po and company? Well you’re in luck, animation lovers, because Dreamworks Animation has officially just announced that the sequel to “Kung Fu Panda” is set for a 2011 release. That means you can start getting your sleeping bags ready to camp out in front of the movie theater to buy those tickets sometime next year. What, you weren’t planning on doing that for an animated movie? So doing it for “Star Wars” is okay, but not for “Kung Fu Panda”? You suck. Anyways, more news on the impending sequel below.
Reuters fills in the blanks:
The film, which will reunite Jack Black, as kung fu fan Po, Angelina Jolie and other members of the original voice cast, will be released in 3-D — the new standard for all DreamWorks Animation movies starting next year — on regular and Imax screens worldwide.
The 2011 date means that “Panda” will be sharing the summer box-office schedule with Disney/Pixar’s “Cars 2,” which Disney moved last week from a 2012 release to summer 2011.
The original “Kung Fu Panda” had Jack Black as Po, a fat panda who learns that he’s the chosen one, and must protect some village of animals from a mean ass tiger. I never did figure out why the tiger was so evil, besides the fact that he just wanted to learn all the martial arts he can. But I guess that’s greed or ambition or something, which I think means you’re evil in Hollywood. That, and the tiger goes around kicking everyone’s ass, which I suppose is also a sign of villainy.
