Robocop Comic Book

From the looks of this latest batch of set images from the “Robocop” reboot, and considering the actors present, it looks like there’s a homecoming going on for our half-man, half-cyborg, all-cop hero. My guess is that it’s probably not going to turn out quite as Robo expects. Oh well, such is life in a surprisingly clean futuristic Detroit.

As always with set images…

POTENTIAL SPOILERS BELOW

Check out Joel Kinnaman trying to hide his Robocop-ness from us (get a better look at the costume here) and co-star Abbie Cornish, playing Kinnaman’s wife, from Jose Padilha’s sci-fi reboot. And oh, some futuristic Detroit City cops are around to lend a siren or two as well.

“Robocop” co-stars Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jay Baruchel, Jennifer Ehle, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste, and is due to paint the town red August 9, 2013.

Him having his right hand out is intriguing me. Will that and his face be like the only thing left of his original body? If they truly make this a battle to preserve Murphy’s humanity that would be very cool, almost as if they pushed his personality and stuff to the botttom with all the programming and it’s slowly bubbling up causing outbursts, which inturn causes OmniCorp to try and supress them even more

Maybe it is intriguing. But i think that Kinnaman is just a smoker…since he is holding on tj a cigarette. As for the suit maybe the CGI will do it’s magic.

I completely missed the cig! LOL

I just wanna see him waste bad guys and spout out cool one-liners. I could care less what his costume looks like.

Intriguing hands and one-liners aside I am not feeling this at all. Much like the recently rebooted Total Recall, Robocp was one of those 80′s films that was ahead of its time. The cgi wasn’t available to accomplish what was intended which, while entertaining, left room for improvement. They were telling the tales of a day when technology was advanced enough to have a human become self sufficient after a severe injury through the use of robotics. Well, that day is now! Many things from the original deserved an overhaul. However, the suit was not one of them. It is actually one of the only things in the original that holds up.

I’m sorry but I have to disagree. The old suit may still look good in stills but in motion it looks clunky, cumbersome and slow. I never liked that he moved like a tank, even as a kid. And the fact that you can hear him coming from so far away made it worse. I think slimming the suit down and maiking him more agile is a good thing, especially when you’re supposed to be enhancing preformance not slowing it down. I perosnally think this will be a pretty good reboot, and will still touch on the prosthetic aspect of it, but will add even more of how we rely on tehcnology, and how even when it helps it can still work against us. Hence the humanity versus technology aspect of this AND the original come in. Is he a man with machine parts, or a machine with humanity?

Its because Og Robocop IS a TANK. XD

I don’t mind the new look. Can’t wait to see it all in action.

        • http://www.beyondhollywood.com/ Dedpool

Exactly. Now if they want to do a nod to the old look and have it be his riot or swat armor I’m good with that.

      • Juggernaut

They could have streamlined the suit but kept the general look from the original. Somewhere between the look of the robots in I, Robot and the old version. Sleeker and more functional but still the same asthetics. Just my opinion.

The aesthetics are there actually, just updated a bit. It HAS been 20 years. I will concede that the color scheme is bland and that may be what is really throwing you off. More silver, chrome and blue is needed. But then again maybe they’re trying to get him to stand outless from the look of the regualr Police as opposed to how he stood out before with the chrome and everyone else was in blacks.

          • Juggernaut

            Maybe that’s it.

In the original movie OCP gave the order to the surgens to remove the arm…..It looks silly with his hand being exposed like that….Collateral Damage for sure. Robocop looks like the stealth Iron Man from the comics. I hate the so called futuristic vehicles…could have been done better. I will check it out when it hits the big screen though.

Since i saw that OCP site and trailer i had the feeling that they were really inspired by the recent cyberpunk games :Deus Ex^HR and Syndicate…the sound, setting and colors. I think i’ll have a more thorough point of view when the first “normal”trailer will hit the screens as for now…i’m just thinking of it as a new movie. Not even in the same franchise.
