As we reported over here, Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury is getting a very important female sidekick in Joss Whedon’s upcoming “The Avengers”. According to Jackson, he’s due to screen test with five lovely ladies for the role, and according to Heat Vision, four of those lovely ladies include “V’s” (and former “Firefly” darling) Morena Baccarin, along with “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” star (and the upcoming “The Thing” remake) Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
Also looking to slip on that SHIELD uniform are Jessica Lucas of “Cloverfield” fame and Cobie Smulders from TV’s “How I Met Your Mother”.
All four ladies will be screen testing with Samuel L. Jackson sometime on Friday for the cushy, movie career making gig, which if they land, will require a large contract signing that involves multiple Marvel movies, being that Jackson’s Nick Fury and SHIELD figures prominently in the universe Marvel Studios is currently creating with all their movie properties.
So which one of the ladies has the inside track here? Well, considering that Joss Whedon is directing “The Avengers” and Baccarin was one of his “Firefly” stars, I’m going to have to go with Baccarin. Whedon is one of those guys who loves to keep working with the same people, so he will probably be very inclined to include Baccarin as the SHIELD sidekick.
Speaking of which — are we looking at Maria Hill here? Or Sharon Carter, perhaps? Possibly even Janet Van Dyne aka The Wasp?
