The film, set in 79 A.D., will star “Game of Thrones'” Kit Haringston as Milo, “a slave-turned-invincible gladiator who finds himself in a race against time to save his true love Flavia, a wealthy merchant’s daughter who unwillingly has been betrothed to a corrupt Roman general.”
That’s bad enough, but then the volcano in the background goes off. Yikes. Since the film is titled “Pompeii”, you history buffs already know that things will not end well for most of the city’s population. Let’s hope Jack — er, I mean, Milo manages to save Rose! (I mean, Flavia.)
Emily Browning (“Sucker Punch”) was previously cast as Flavia, while Harris will play her father, Lucretius.
The film, of course, will be shot in 3D by Paul W.S. Anderson, who is coming off the absolute torture that was “Resident Evil: Retribution”, and apparently is also set to return for another installment in the increasingly Godawful franchise.
Since Anderson is directing, you can expect “Pompeii” to have surprising moments of greatness that will, alas, be overcome by vast moments of mediocrity.
