Mortal Kombat: Legacy Web Series Episode 3 (of 9)

The third episode of Kevin Tancharoen’s “Mortal Kombat: Legacy” web series is now online, and this one features the talents of washed up action star Johnny Cage (played by Matt Mullins), along with a dapper looking Shang Tsung (Johnson Pham). “Eureka” star Erica Cerra also has a cameo. After the gritty warehouse fights/battles of the first two episodes, Episode 3 actually has a pretty cool opening, and the fights aren’t bad, either.

After unsuccessfully trying to sell his reality television pilot pitch to a studio exec, Johnny Cage, an American action-hero movie star who has fallen on hard times, is recruited by Shang Tsung, a powerful sorcerer who has the power to suck souls from people, to fight in the upcoming Mortal Kombat tournament.

Awsome! Gotta love the split into the nut punch circa 1992! Also Matt Mullins would make a great Deadpool!

HELL YEAH! OKAY I’ve been a fan since Rebirth but Legacy is kicking serious ass. If they made this into a TV series on HBO or Starz it’d rock! Then let him do his movie too! Mullin as Cage is perfect, and yeah Juggy i could see him playing Deadpool if Reynolds can’t plus he’s a martial artist so you’d only have to have the stunt double do some of the stuff. Love the fact that Cage was a Power Ranger, while Mullins was actually on “Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight” (Same difference lol). Can’t wait to see what they do wth Mileena and Kitana. And i can’t wait for Sub-Zero and Scorpion.

This run has been so rooted in reality that it will be interesting to see how they incorporate the supernatural elements in here.

They just did! I like the way they incoprorated Shang Tsung and his magic. Simple but effective. LOL. I think we’ll be seeing some of that next week, or at least some hints. Kintana and Mileena are both Outworlders. I’d like to see an episode or two that takes place either in Outworld or has Shang Tsung communicating with Shao Khan in Outworld.

This series is proving what most video game properties fail to realize – 10 min. is about all you need to tell the story. You put all this stuff into a feature film and it comes out flat and fractured because you have to tell 12 stories at once – you do it this way and it comes off clean, crisp and cool! I say keep it this way – don’t expand it to a TV show – don’t try and make another movie – just call up the folks from Capcom and get started with a Street Fighter treatment!

Expanding it to a TV series wouldn’t change the way this comes out, just give you more time to play and expand the stroies and characters. As opposed to a film where you have a set time limit. This allows you to spend say 10-15 min percharacter. If they did it for an hour long show, they’d baasically break it down the same way but it’d be like 15-20 min per chracter depending on the story.

And A Street Fighter series like this wouldn’t be a bad idea at all, with the same care and tone. The “Street Fighter: Legacy” short film was pretty decent even though they went a lil cheesy on Ken’s look. LOL.
