Mortal Kombat: Legacy Web Series Episode 7 (of 9)

Episode 7 of Kevin Tancharoen’s “Mortal Kombat: Legacy” web series finally brings us to the story we’ve all been waiting for — the origins of Scorpion and Sub-Zero. Let’s face it, of all the Mortal Kombat characters, these two have always been the coolest. There’s that costume, simple and yet elegant, and those masks (though here, the masks are made to conform a bit more to traditional Japanese masks). Plus, one can freeze things and the other can shoot a snake out of his hand, for God’s sake. That’s just cool. Check out part 1 of “Scorpion and Sub-Zero” below. It’s a major thumbs up after the lackluster and seemingly go-nowhere of the Kitana and Mileena episodes, but a tad too dark for some reason.

Hanzo Hasashi, better known as the warrior Scorpion, is summoned to meet with the Shogun of Kumamoto Castle. While traveling, the fearless General of the Shirai Ryu clan encounters his mortal enemy, Sub-Zero. Scorpion realizes too late that this trap has led him away from his village and family, leaving them without means to defend themselves. He knows that he must defeat Sub-Zero and return to his village before it is too late.

Starring Ian Anthony Dale (“Tekken”) as Scorpion and Kevan Ohtsji as Sub-Zero, as well as your narrator. Johnson Phan returns as Shang Tsung.

Cool Stories From Zergnet

Best one yet in my opinion – for what it is.

Very cool. I have a few questions for anyone willing to help me out. First, is his son supposed to be another character in the games? Secondly, who was the messenger at Scorpion’s door with the glowing eyes supposed to be? I know very little about the backstory and characters beyond the Mortal Kombat 2.

Well last time I played, Scorpion’s family was killed by Subzero’s clan. So I assume the messengers were part of that clan. Luring Scorpion out and away from his village while they finish off Scorpion’s clan. Scorpion eventually gets killed off by Subzero and Scorpion makes a pact with the sorcerer Quan Chi for immortality in order to get revenga!

      Its something like that.:p

        Thanks for the info.

Pretty much looks that way. I pretty much figured with the glowing blue eyes they were Lin Kuei in disguise. I wonder if we’ll see young Sub Zero II (Bi Han’s younger bro who takes over the mantle from MKII on).

I liked the episode, but the acting was awful. Not because they’re bad actors. Because Sub-Zero was the closest thing to a Japanese speaker they had. I mean, really? They couldn’t find anyone who speaks Japanese to play these roles? Their accents and intonations were WAY OFF. I’d rather them all be speaking English. I don’t even care that a white guy is playing a Japanese guy. :/

That’s Ian Anthony Dale as Scorpian and he isn’t white. His accent is off probably because Japanese isn’t his first language I don’t believe. I do agree that Sub Zero had the coolest voice of the two.

      • Qklilx

My mistake, but they should have found someone who speaks Japanese better. Not necessarily native, just someone with a more passable accent. My Korean-accented Japanese sounds better. Same goes for the wife.

          Lmao!

          Sent on the go.

Really liked the oni mask for Scorpion and how well they’re stickign to the original backstory and showing it. In my eyes these motivations for the kombatants was as important as the story of the game itself.
