I made a quickie post about Don Cheadle and Guy Pearce’s new action-thriller “Traitor” a while ago, but haven’t heard anything from it since. Well, the studio has now released the first trailer for the movie, and one word: Wow. This thing looks like it could be a balls-to-the-wall intense movie, and seems less concern with the politics of the situation (movies about terrorists invariably involves excess baggage — i.e. politics) then it is with the actual situation of the lead character, played by Don Cheadle.
The trailer sort of gives away too much of the plot, as trailers always do nowadays, but it still looks like amazing stuff.
The plot is simple and complicated at the same time: Don Cheadle plays an ex-Special Forces soldier who went to the Middle East to train some people, but decided to stay behind and converted into a terrorist. Or did he? Well that’s what Guy Pearce’s FBI agent has to figure out before they both get killed.
Written and directed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff (“The Day After Tomorrow”), the film’s IMDB.com listing boasts an “idea by” credit for … Steve Martin? The comedian? Apparently so.
“Traitor” opens August 29, 2008.
