Movie Trailer: Never Back Down

A mixed martial arts movie for the teen crowd? That’s apparently what the new flick “Never Back Down” is being primed as, with its MTV quick-cutting trailer and PG-13 rating. And oh yeah, it’s set in high school, with “teen” characters, so right there you know they’re selling this thing to the same people who flocked to “You Got Served”, etc. Still, it could be dumb fun. Plus, it co-stars Amber Heard, who is always worth a look.

Set against the action-packed world of Mixed Martial Arts, Never Back Down is the story of Jake Tyler, a tough kid who leads with his fists, and, often, with his heart. Jake Tyler, played by Sean Faris, is the new kid in town with a troubled past. In this new city he is an outsider with a reputation for being a quick tempered brawler. Jake is introduced to the sport known as Mixed Martial Arts and is trained by his mentor, Jean Roqua, played by Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond, In America). For Jake, there is much more at stake than mere victory. His decision will not just settle a score; it will define who he is.

Starring Sean Faris, Amber Heard, Djimon Hounsou, Cam Gigandet, Evan Peters, and directed by Jeff Wadlow.

Throw a jab March 14, 2008.

When I saw a preview for this a few weeks ago, all I could think was I sure liked this the first time when it was called “The Karate Kid.” But, I’m sure I’ll still see it anyway…
