This may look and sound like a bad April Fools joke, but I can assure you, it’s not. It’s an actual direct-to-DVD sequel to 1983’s “War Games” by MGM. You remember, the movie starring Matthew Broderick as a computer genius who hacks into a super duper military complex’s super computer and starts playing games, not realizing it’s an actual defense system, and nearly starts WWIII? Well the sequel has another smart teen doing the same thing to another super military computer, this one programmed to stop terrorists. And, you guessed it, the computer is now ready to blow up half of America as a result. Stupid teen genius hackers, why don’t they ever learn? Trailer and the rest of the glory that is “WarGames 2: The Dead Code” below.
In the flick, a teenage hacker’s (played by Matt Lanter) world gets turned upside-down after playing an online terrorist-attack simulator game called “RIPLEY” against a government super-computer designed to profile potential terrorists. (This super computer may or may not be related to the computer from the 1983 original.) All hell breaks loose when Homeland Security is convinced that the kid’s a terrorist (the game is sorta tailored for terrorists, if that makes any damn sense) and comes after him. Besides running for his life, the kid now has to save the world by beating the computer at its own game. Plus, that cute blonde girl is like, so into him and junk if he wins.
Colm Feore co-stars and Stuart Gillard directs.
Wait for it on DVD. If you must. Trailer below. (Thanks to Doug for the YouTube link.)
