My Sassy Girl Remake Goes Direct to DVD

If you’re one of the few people waiting anxiously for the release of Elisha Cuthbert and Jesse Bradford’s remake of “My Sassy Girl” (and judging from all the comments I’ve gotten whenever I post a story on this movie, there aren’t all that many of you out there), you won’t have long to wait. Unfortunately, you won’t be going to the movie theaters to see the romantic comedy, because according the film, based on a South Korean hit of the same name, is going directly to DVD come August 26, 2008.

Variety has the lowdown:

The remake of MY SASSY GIRL starring Elisha Cuthbert and Jesse Bradford is coming out on August 26, direct to DVD. I thought this was a bad idea, but then I saw the trailer. They’re making the right choice. Sometimes a project just doesn’t work out and while there’s probably a DTV market for a romantic comedy misfire, I doubt there’s a theatrical market for one.

Variety also mentions that the DVD will probably come out bare bones. If you haven’t seen the trailer for the film, take a gander below.

Did the studio make the right choice to dump it onto DVD?
