Mystique Gets her Own X-Men First Class Character Profile

Following up on yesterday’s minute-long character profiles apiece for Banshee, Beast, and Havok, comes the first one for the ladies — Jennifer Lawrence’s Raven Darkholme aka Mystique. Most of it is recycled from Beast’s character profile, but there is a telling exchange at the end between Mystique and Michael Fassbender’s Erik Lehnsherr aka Magneto.

Co-starring January Jones, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Kevin Bacon, Jason Flemyng, Rose Byrne, Lucas Till, Zoë Kravitz, Oliver Platt, Morgan Lily, Edi Gathegi, and Caleb Landry Jones. Directed by Matthew Vaughn.

Cool Stories From Zergnet

First and last scene were only new ones. Otherwise it was Beast’s trailer. I like how they’re alluding to what Magneto and her relaitionship will become. It started as a mentor relationship but grew into more, but they never say he crosed that line.

    • Juggernaut

Agreed. That was a pretty cool clip with Magneto though! I always thought of Magneto and Mystique’s relationship as a father/daughter one. There are some undertones but nothing to substantiate that.

      • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool

Exactly. He’s gonna be the one who shows her how it “really” is for mutants and she’ll join up becaue he “saved” her. Ironically when she does the same.

I thought that his disowning her in Te Last Stand was really crappy! Lol. There is a lot to touch on in that regard in a sequel to TLS.

What’s retconning if not taking supporting characters and small details and making them bigger than they are? I love that comic book movies have reached the point that post-modern works like “Watchmen” and honest to God retcons like this and the Wolverine movie are feasible, if not guaranteed to succeed

      • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool

I’m all for switching stuff up to make it fresh as long as its written well. “XMO:Wolvverine” was not written well, sorry. Another good idea, bad execution situations.

jennifer lawrence is terrible miscast as mystique

    • Juggernaut

I agree completely! I haven’t seen her act in anything as of yet but I hear she is very good. I just don’t see a young Rebecca Romijn in there is all.

Young Mystique is awesome, so cute, except for the body shot, yuck, I like the last scene, when she turns blue, she looks better there

  • Vampelle

why is her hair back in the movies and this as well.

should have adopted the comics mystique and not the movie one.

that what i hated about that as well. Small B and not hot

Isn’t Scott Summers aka Cyclops supposed to be part of the real first class in “comics” and even in the “movies”? I re watch the X-Men 1 movie and Prof. X said that Cyclops and Jean are one of his first students.

So if Matthew Vaughn and Bryan Singer is saying that this is a prequel then they fail to even acknowledge their own movie continuity. It’s either they are suffering from a sever case of amnesia or they’re just retarded.

    • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool

Uh huh…Xavier’s been known to omit truth. In the comics Scott thought the new team with Wolverine and Banshee and Storm was Xaviers first new team. Come to find out there was another team that had Scott’s youngest brother leading it and most of them died. Scott didn’t find out for years. This kinda goes along those lines, Darwin was part of that team and he’s in this.

      • Juggernaut

That was the team with Vulcan right? I missed that whole story line. I wasn’t aware that Darwin was one of that team. Interesting…

        • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool

Yup. I actually liked the story “Deadly Genesis” and some of the ones that came out of it like War of Kings.

But it still doesn’t change the fact that Cyclops & Jean are Prof.X first students in the comics and in the movies. And Singer already said that first class is a prequel.

        • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool

But this isn’t the comics. The point I was trying to make is that Xavier lies and the statement from X-men 1 could easily have been what he wanted Logan degrees but not necesarrily the truth. Technically they could’ve been his first official class.

          • JP

But this is the movies and Bryan Singer’s X-Men movie already established that Scott and Jean are one of Prof.X first X-Men students. It’s either Matthew Vaughn and Singer has completely forgotten it.

          • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool

Um that’s like saying “this is the comics” and x-men #*** said that the new team was the only new team.

Its called retconning and it happens in movie series and franchises a lot. Star Wars, Underworld, Indiana Jones, etc. At least by saying he ommitted the truth it works, just cause he told us something don’t make I true. Its not like we got a scene with them in the school, just his word.

Um Dedpool “you’re the one who keep bringing up the comics” not me. You keep telling it’s comics this and comics that and so on and so forth. What I’m trying to tell is that Mathew Vaughn is ignoring Singer’s own movie continuity which is kind of retarded since Bryan Singer already announced it’s a prequel.

And yes you’ve just proven my point. Matthew Vaughn retconned Bryan Signer’s movies while Singer tells us it’s a prequel. Whenever these two directors speak
they always contradict each other which makes them look hilarious and stupid at the same time.

    • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool

All I was saying is that it can be explained away easily. And retcon doesn’t always mean its ignoring a continuity, in most cases they flesh out that continuity and fill in the gaps. But I definitely agree that they almost seem to be talking about different movies lol.

      • JP

I’m not really against on retcons or changing continuities, but I do hope that Matthew Vaughn and Bryan Singer comes up with a convincing explanation on whether Xavier lied to Wolverine or not when he introduced Cyclops, Jean and Storm as some of his first class.

        • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool

Oh I doubt that. But maybe it’s possible down the line with sequels. Like if they ever introduce a young Scott, Jean and Storm, they’d meet Beast and he’d say welcome to the first class of Xaviers School.

          Sent on the go.

          • JP

It’s kind of funny when you think about it. What would Xavier gain from lying? It’s not like Cyclops, Jean and Storm are relevant to Singer’s universe. Bryan Singer never even bothered to focus on Cyclops Jean & Storm’s background history.
