Natalie Portman as the Female Lead in Thor?
Comic Book Movie News, Thor (2011) Movie — By Nix on March 17, 2009
Natalie Portman holds a special place in the hearts of geeks. Or at least I’ve been told. I don’t really get it myself. Maybe it’s because she was once in Luc Besson’s “Leon” (aka “The Professional”) or … something. Anyways, they just seem to really like her, which should make some of them happy because there are rumors that Portman is up for the female lead in Kenneth Branagh’s “Thor” movie.
The news comes from Deadline Hollywood, who breaks down the contenders to play Thor:
Charlie Hunnam (the British co-star of the F/X series Sons Of Anarchy); Tom Hiddleston (award-winning British actor and RADA graduate who played Winston Churchill’s son in HBO’s The Gathering Storm), Alexandar Skarsgard (Stellan’s son who has appeared in the HBO Iraq War miniseries Generation Kill and vampire drama True Blood, and who’s definitely visually right for the role), Liam Hemsworth (offered a significant role in The Expendables after Sly Stallone saw his tape), and Joel Kinnaman (some Swedish-American dude).
And then they drop this at the end of the article:
Meanwhile, I’m told Natalie Portman is in the lead for the female lead.
Huh. Natalie Portman. In “Thor”. Sure, I guess, why not? Thor’s leading lady is a diminutive actress with questionable acting skills, right?
I kid, I kid. Or do I? I saw all three “Star Wars” prequels, too, you know.
Below: In the future, hair buns can pick up the slack for stilted acting.

Greaaaat…just when I was hoping there would be hope for this film someone brings the suck-sauce to the table. She cant act (period) and isnt hot and sure as hell aint no Viking woman!!!!
I heard Thor was going to be set in Asgard and be all cool with fighting Loki, Giants, Demons, oh my … and then ending with him coming to Midgard in the guise of the good Dr.
No probs with that – but add a suckass cast and you are bound to destroy it before it even starts.
Cool! Great! Natalie Portman! Can’t get enough of her!!! Love all of her flicks! So, with Natalie Portman (as Sif perhaps?) there might finally be a chance for a great Thor film. I’ve seen every “Thor” film and they all suck! I’ve even seen “Thor” in the Hercules Series and other bit spots and they ALL sucked! I just drudged on through the “Thor: Hammer of the Gods” on the Sci-Fi Channel and it was just like all of the other Suck-Ass movies that use cheap costumes, poor actors, poor directors, piss-poor story lines, and as always, make Thor out to be some bumbling dim-witted moron. Oh PLEASE GOD in HEAVEN let the Marvel Thor Movie at long last finally do Justice to not only the Nordic Theology, but to the Marvel Comic Franchise as well. Love Ya’ Natalie!
I love Natalie. She was great in V for Vendetta. However, the leading lady in a Thor movie? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! I think not, my friends. Ok, granted, I will agree that she sucked in the Star Wars prequels, but, then again, the movies themselves sucked. So, I guess, in the end, since the movies sucked, it couldn’t have been all Natalie’s fault that she went into them half-heartedly. Natalie just isn’t the Norse type. She could be in the movie (she’s always great for eye candy), but she doesn’t need to play any of the goddesses.
Natalie Portman can, indeed, act. What hurts actors most is when somenoe cant write a script. this is why Nat gets a bad wrap.
Thor isn’t just about the norse mythos.. its also about thor being in a modern american city. I bet they’ll play that angle with her.
