Oh, Natalie Portman. Don’t you know it’s never smart to tease the fanboys? While doing some promotional work for the upcoming superhero sequel “Thor: The Dark World,” the actress discussed a few of the projects that are brewing over at Marvel. Although she didn’t drop any specifics, apparently one of the projects will feature a hero without a penis.
Here’s what she told Sci-Fi Now:
There are definitely many strong women, but it will be exciting when there is a central female character which I think is coming — I have heard is coming. And, of course, also a central non-white character will also be exciting. Title characters.
She also had some nice things to say about the publisher:
They do definitely have strong female characters in them, and I think it’s a testament to the people who run Marvel — their respect, their just normal human respect for women, the way they want to characterize them. You can tell when men talk to you, as just a person or as a ‘woman.’
Stan Lee, on the other hand, says it could be a while before Marvel tosses out a female superhero flick. The reason: Both guys and gals love the male-dominated movies right now. Since demand isn’t that high, Marvel Studios isn’t in a rush to put anything together.
“The thing is the women like these movies as much as the guys, so we don’t have to knock ourselves to find a female, but we will,” Lee told the folks at Too Fab.
Could a Black Widow, She-Hulk, or Spider-Woman movie be in the works? It’s all speculation at this point. Personally, I’m pulling for the She-Hulk movie.
Natalie Portman hangs out with Chris Hemsworth in “Thor: The Dark World” on November 8.
