And here I thought NBC’s version of the sucky one was going to be a bad primetime soap opera with fangs. From the looks of this music video-inspired trailer for the show just put out by the network, it’s a heck of a lot bloodier than I thought it would be. And sexier, but I guess that’s a given, since ol Drac is often linked to sex in all the stories that have been told about him.
I am a bit surprised that network TV is getting this gory, though. I can see it on basic cable TV with shows like “The Walking Dead”, but on free TV? Hmm. Then again, NBC has been giving us “Hannibal” for a year now, and that show is just friggin’ disturbing on so many levels.
It’s the late 19th century, and the mysterious Dracula has arrived in London, posing as an American entrepreneur who wants to bring modern science to Victorian society. He’s especially interested in the new technology of electricity, which promises to brighten the night – useful for someone who avoids the sun. But he has another reason for his travels: he hopes to take revenge on those who cursed him with immortality centuries earlier. Everything seems to be going according to plan… until he becomes infatuated with a woman who appears to be a reincarnation of his dead wife.
“Dracula” stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers as the bloodsucker, and former “Arrow” beauty Jessica De Gouw as his object of lust/love/nightly visitations.
Sucking nightly this October 25th.
