Neil Marshall is Going Troll Hunting in Remake

Neil Marshall on the set of Doomsday (2008) Movie Image

Neil Marshall, now known more as one of the many directors on HBO’s “Game of Thrones” than the director of cinematic bloodbaths like “Centurion”, “Dog Soldiers”, “The Descent” and “Doomsday”, will be heading into the woods for a remake of IMG Global’s “Trollhunter”, since re-titled “Troll Hunter”. With a space.

The $25 million dollar film is scheduled to shoot early 2014, just as soon as Marshall finishes more episodes on “Game of Thrones”. Being that ol Neil is known for his bloodbaths, I’m going to guess that whatever episode HBO gives him to direct, it’ll involve lots of bloodbathing going on. Which should work out well, since that show is just getting bloodier and bloodier with every season. There’s this whole fighting on a wall thing involving giants, beasts, and such on the way…

The idea, apparently, is to secure a big-name actor for the lead role, one that might necessarily be associated with the genre. Whoever that is, he would play a mysterious troll hunter who leads a group of college students investigating the disappearance of animals. Turns out, there are some things out there — some things that are VERY big — munching on the buggers.

Here’s a look at a trailer for the original:

“Troll Hunter”, of course, will be a remake of the 2010 Norwegian film directed by André Øvredal. Before you folks start bitching and moaning, know that Øvredal himself seems pretty gung-ho about the remake, and probably stands to earn a pretty penny for it. Let’s face it, kids — these days, selling remake rights of your movies to Hollywood is the new gold rush. You wouldn’t begrudge guys like Øvredal of cashing in, would you?

My suggestion for the role of the troll hunter? Liam Neeson:
