Neil Marshall May Direct ScarJo-Less Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

Looks like we have a new contendah!!! for the directing chair of Lionsgate’s “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies”, their zombified take on the classic Jane Austen tale.

The LATimes reports that Neil Marshall, aka the King of Splatter behind “Doomsday”, “The Descent”, and more recently, “Centurion”, is now in the running to direct “Zombies” along with Mike White (“Orange County”). While Marshall and White are the top choices, newcomer Jeffrey Blitz is also in the running, though he looks to be a longshot. Is there really any choice here? You got zombies, you got Brits — give this thing to Marshall and let’s get this sucker in front of the camera already!

“Pride and Prejudice and Zombies”, Seth Graham-Smithe’s take on what would happen if you tossed some flesh-eating undead into Jane Austen’s perfect little polite British society, was originally supposed to go before the cameras with David O. Russell directing and Natalie Portman starring. Russell has since left to do the videogame movie “Drake’s Fortune”, while Portman is fielding offers from basically everywhere post-“Black Swan”.

Directors Mike Newell (“Prince of Persia”) and Matt Reeves (“Let Me In”) were also offered the gig, but both have turned it down.

And oh yeah, Scarlett Johansson, long rumored to have replaced Natalie Portman in the role, has also ditched the zombie fest. One assumes she’s got her hands full with “The Avengers” and “Under the Skin” coming up. So sorry, kids, no ScarJo in tight corset for you! Sigh.

Bradley Cooper, meanwhile, is still attached to play Darcy. He best brush up on his accent.
