Neil Marshall Talks The Descent 2

By Nix | July 30, 2007 (1:51 pm)

As previously reported, it appears Neil Marshall’s “The Descent” is indeed getting a sequel, and yes, the title will indeed be the gimmicky “The De2cent”. And you fans of the original, don’t think the studio is doing this without your guy’s input; Marshall recently talked with the boys over at ShockTillyouDrop, and he says about the project: “I’ve got a few story ideas, they’ve got a few story ideas and we’re just throwing them into the mix.” I don’t know what that means, exactly, but Marshall is NOT without involvement in the planned sequel, it would appear.

More:

One possible direction being mulled over is to pick up with Shauna Macdonald’s “Sarah,” that is, if she didn’t croak at the end of the first film. “Shauna just had a baby so she’s not gonna be ready to film for a bit,” Marshall adds, then, “['De2cent'] is a ways off.” But there is palpable interest coming from his former leading lady. “She wants to continue the journey a bit more. As far as I’m concerned, there’s only one way to take her character, she has to die. If we didn’t kill her at the end of the first film, we have to kill her at the end of the second one,” Marshall laughs. “So, I don’t know - I don’t know where we stand yet.”

So there you go, kids. It may be a sequel, but if Marshall is still involved, hopefully it won’t be the crap everyone was anticipating.

Then again, we were told Danny Boyle was “involved” in the sequel to his “28 Days Later”, too, and we know how that one turned out…

And how does it turned out? 28 weeks later happened to be one of the best horror movies this year so far, even without danny boyle shooting it.
