Neil Marshall’s to Write and Direct Sacrilege Next
Since he didn’t get the “Conan” job, Neil Marshall is now setting his sights on another one of his film projects — the horror/Western “Sacrilege”, which he’ll do next for Focus Features. Marshall will write and direct the film, which will be set in the Old West, and “set during the Gold Rush, a time remembered for incidents like the Donner Party”, says Marshall. Indulging in a little cannibalism, perhaps? But knowing Marshall, it’ll be very bloody and very unforgiving. The dude hates happy endings.
More:
Marshall, who wrote and directed “Dog Soldiers” and “The Descent” as well as “Doomsday,” grew up in England watching oaters and horror films in equal measure and dreamed of combining the genres. Marshall declined to disclose much detail on “Sacrilege,” but the picture will draw on themes of isolation and paranoia and such influences as John Carpenter’s “The Thing.”
“This is ‘Unforgiven’ by way of H.P. Lovecraft, with that grim, gritty setting and a horror element nobody has seen before,” Marshall said.
Neill Marshall does a film that is influenced by “The Thing”? One of my favorite films of all time? Dude, I’m so there.
