And oh yeah, Riddick himself is sprinkled in there, too. But this seems to mostly be about the mercs that will be hunting everyone’s favorite anti-hero in David Twohy’s upcoming “Riddick”, his sequel to “Pitch Black” and “Chronicles of Riddick”, which I continue to like more and more every time I see it on TV, even though it still comes off as a bit too clunky and wildly too ambitious for its own good. “Riddick”, on the other hand, looks like a slim-down version, a “back to basics” of sorts for the franchise.

Check out 15 new images for the film below, doled out to various online folks who recently visited the set. Our invitation must have gotten lost in the mail. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.

Starring Vin Diesel, Karl Urban, Jordi Mollà, Matt Nable, Katee Sackhoff, Bokeem Woodbine, Dave Bautista, Conrad Pla, Raoul Trujillo, Nolan Funk, and Keri Hilson.

Riddick versus the mercs this September 6th.

I too am a fan of Chronicles. i like that they tried to do something different and expanded the universe while doing so. This does a little more expanding but feels more like it’s trying to hard to capture the feel of Pitch Black, which there is nothing wrong with as long as they bring something new to it. I do wonder how they’ll bridge the gap between “Chronicles” and this.
