New Batch of The Smurfs Movie Images

Earlier this week, I saw a commercial for “The Smurfs” with a couple of my nephews, who are around 10. Their only reaction to the commercial? A mild, “What’s that all about?” Kids nowadays don’t have a clue who the Smurfs are, probably because there are no Smurfs TV show in re-runs anywhere. Or at least, none that I know of, and because of said nephews, channels like Disney and Nick are turned on pretty regularly around the homestead. All that is to say, Columbia Pictures have released new images from “The Smurfs” movie. Make no mistake, it will probably make a lot of money, thanks to parents bringing their kids. The parents, of course, will want to relive their childhood, while the kids, well, who are we kidding, kids will watch anything as long as there are cute talking creatures running around, and “The Smurfs” certainly has that in abundance.

When the evil wizard Gargamel chases the tiny blue Smurfs out of their village, they tumble from their magical world and into ours — in fact, smack dab in the middle of Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down.

Starring Jayma Mays, Neil Patrick Harris, Katy Perry, Sofía Vergara, Anton Yelchin, Hank Azaria, Alan Cumming, B.J. Novak, Paul Reubens, George Lopez, Jonathan Winters, Fred Armisen, Kenan Thompson, John Oliver, Adam Wylie, Jeff Foxworthy and directed by Raja Gosnell.

The Smurfs visit July 29, 2011.
