I gotta tell ya, having seen as many direct-to-DVD action movies as I have over the years, Steven Soderbergh’s “Haywire” looks somewhat … generic. Aside from all the A-list names in the cast (star Gina Carano notwithstanding, it’s only her first big film as the lead, after all), “Haywire” doesn’t look like it’s anything really special. But maybe that’s the point. I get the feeling “Haywire” is just one of those experiments that Soderbergh gave himself, to see if he can direct a straight-to-the-point action movie minus all the muss and fuss. The impressive cast certainly doesn’t hurt. Anyways, here’s a new clip from the film, starring Bill Paxton as Carano’s dad. Yes, Bill Paxton, Hudson from “Aliens”, is now playing the dads of action heroes. Man, the time flies! (There is also a “new” trailer going around, but I’m reasonably certain we posted that trailer way back in July. Of 2011.)
Beautiful freelance covert operative Mallory Kane (Gina Carano) is hired out by her handler to various global entities to perform jobs which governments can’t authorize and heads of state would rather not know about. After a mission to rescue a hostage in Barcelona, Mallory is quickly dispatched on another mission to Dublin. When the operation goes awry and Mallory finds she has been double crossed, she needs to use all of her skills, tricks and abilities to escape an international manhunt, make it back to the United States, protect her family, and exact revenge on those that have betrayed her.
Starring Gina Carano, Channing Tatum, Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, Michael Angarano, Antonio Banderas, Michael Douglas, Bill Paxton and throwing punches January 20, 2012.
