This latest clip from Ryan Gosling’s crime flick “Drive” features a couple of scenes that I don’t recall from the James Sallis book. For one, there is no car racing subplot, and Bryan Cranston’s mechanic/mentor character doesn’t ring any bells to me. On the bright side, the whole “my hands are dirty”/”so are mine” exchange between Gosling’s man-of-few-words Driver and Brooks’ transplanted gangster makes for one hell of a great line.
“Drive” is the story of a Hollywood stunt driver by day (Gosling), a loner by nature, who moonlights as a top-notch getaway driver-for-hire in the criminal underworld. He finds himself a target for some of LA’s most dangerous men after agreeing to aid the husband of his beautiful neighbor, Irene (Mulligan). When the job goes dangerously awry, the only way he can keep Irene and her son alive is to do what he does best—Drive!
Starring Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston, Albert Brooks, Oscar Isaac, Ron Perlman, Christina Hendricks and directed by Nicolas Winding Refn.
Getting its hands dirty September 16, 2011.
