New From Paris with Love Trailer is All About the Travolta

The latest trailer for “Taken” director Pierre Morel’s “From Paris with Love” has popped up over at Apple. It’s all about Travolta in this one. The trailer pretty much gives you what you’d expect in a Luc Besson-produced film — lots of explosions, action, and of course, some perfunctory attempts at male bonding. And oh, FYI: Morel is scheduled to take over the directing reins of the “Dune” remake over at Paramount. Our Frenchie’s moving on up in Hollywood.

A low-ranking intelligence operative (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) working in the office of the U.S. Ambassador in France takes on more than he bargained for when he partners with a wisecracking, fast-shooting, high-ranking U.S. agent (John Travolta) who’s been sent to Paris to stop a terrorist attack.

Starring John Travolta, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Kasia Smutniak, and Richard Durden. Travolta is staying alive in Paris February 5, 2010.

LMAO!!! The man’s still got it. I know this movie looks ludicris cut damn it also looks like fun. Mindless fun, but fun. Plus I love Travolta when he’s over the top. “Broken Arrow,” “Face/Off,” “Pelham 123,” He just ends up being fun.

Whattup Dedpool, Yeah this movie looks a bit “die hard-over the topish” but I think its going to be fun to watch. That’s a good look for Travolta too. One of my favorite performances from Travolta was in Broken Arrow. “Aint it cool”-Travolta Jonathan Rhys Myers is my second pick for Namor,”The Submariner” Joaquin “crazy bird” Phoenix is my first, if he decides to make a come back.

Yeah loved him in Broken Arrow. Joaquin would make a decent Namor, but he’d have to really, really, bulk up. Myers is a better choice if you ask me. So yeah I had to get out of that “Last Airbender” thread, second thread for that film that’s gotten too heated for me. I completely understand the anger. 100% but like my last post there, for some reason the world of Avatar seemed more ethnic, not JUST Asian. But definitely not all caucasion either. “Jade Empire” did a great job of creating an Asian centric fantasy world, but I think the more realistic looking characters helped portray that. I’m not saying everyone has to look Chinese or Japanese, but the cartoon takes away from any true nationality with the art style and it’s the martial arts, philosophy, clothing, and other stuff that actually become the Eastern influenced visuals. I know the cartoon is heavily based on these things, but when looking at Aang and the gang they just didn’t scream “Asian,” yet some of the characters do, like the older characters. ANYWAY just wanted to say that without getting screamed on.

Well Dedpool people are just getting fed up with the whole, stealing people’s folklore and culture and exploiting it for the All Mighty dollar. The kid playing as Aang didn’t look European to me but he definitely wasn’t Asian. It all comes down to respect. Stealing Asian folklore, putting people other than Asians in the forefront and putting Asians in the back of their own folklore and culture is exploitation and disrespect. So Hollywood always makes little Caucasian kid heroes all the time and their not being enough positive Asian heroes especially for the kids is really bad. What happens in the end is these kids don’t have people to look up to that look like them so they end up getting a inferiority complex and end up wanting to be white. As far as getting screamed on, I don’t know you personally but I respect your very intelligent comments and opinions. I think it’s great when people can have civilized discussions and opinions without getting nasty and defensive or name calling. So I definitely didn’t get angry or scream on you dude. I value your intellectual opinion although we may not always agree. It’s all good my dude.

Oh no I understand whole heartedly…to a point. But with this film it’s less stealing folklore as it is giving just dues. This was made up folklore which was influenced by several different cultures. This wasn’t an Asian created story that hollywood just stole and said lets cast caucasian kids and steal from asians. I do agree there should be Asians playing some of the major parts but like I said for some reason it never seemed like something along the lines of “Jade Empire” or I never saw it looking like a film that should’ve been made in Hong Kong. And don’t get me wrong I’m all about those films. Currently I’m waiting on “Red Cliff,” “The Warlords,” and “Ip Man.” I respect asian cultures moreso than most. But in my head I always saw the world of Avatar as a more ethnicly diverse world. That being said this live action version isn’t the world I saw either.

Wow!! That’s all I can say. This looks all sorts of terrible. It’s like he’s trying to be more like Nicholas Cage.

    • http://www.originalgeekspodcast.com/ Dedpool aka Jiinx

Nope sorry. Can’t agree. Nic Cage over the top is just corny, sad and just plain bad. I actually enjoy Travolta when he gets to go nuts. He’s actually a decent actor and the more stuff I see him in like this, the better. Nic Cage just needs to take a break and look at his last decade’s worth of crap. There’s more crap than good.

      • http://www.jasonshafferphoto.com/ Photoj13

Yes! There is a LOT of crap. I do love Cage in some movies though. Matchstick Men, The Weather Man, Lord Of War.
I think he’ll be great in Kick Ass as well.

I can see your point. Travolta is pretty rad in some action movies. This one is just not a sell for me.

        • ulik

Nic Cage is good in black comedy stuff and more comedy/romance stuff. When he starts getting all “he wants to be a superhero, be in Jon Woo type movies and be a real badass” thats when he just gets downright corny. This movie looks good though a little OTT but give it a chance PHOTOJ13 plus Jonathan Rhys Myers is a good actor. If you haven’t noticed, if John is accompanied by great actors, then that brings the best out of him. A lot of times when Travolta does stand alone movies he sucks but for some reason if you pair him up with somebody great then he’ll be great too.

            VERY VERY TRUE!!!
