Fox’s Batmanless Batman TV show “Gotham” gets a new preview spot, this one focusing on the villains of the series. Or the villains before they became famous as part of Batman’s rogues gallery, like Catwoman and the Penguin and whoever Jada Pinkett Smith ends up being. I don’t ever recall Batman fighting a short African-American lady in the comics, but hey, I’m not a Batman authority, so what do I know.

Bottom line, it’s still a Batman TV show without Batman in it. I don’t know how that’s going to work. Do I really want to see little Bruce Wayne crying after his parents are shot in an alley? Or going through life moping around his big empty mansion? Wasn’t there a reason this part of Bruce’s life is always quickly done away with in a few brief minutes of origin storytelling in the comics and movies?

Anyways, what do I know, I’m not a brilliant TV studio executive. I’m sure “Gotham” will do well. After all, it’s about the cop who is Batman’s best friend … and stuff.

Starring Ben McKenzie, Donal Logue, Camren Bicondova, and David Mazouz as little moping Bruce Wayne.
