I don’t think there’s any two ways about it: “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward John Ford” will turn out to be really, really good, or really, really bad. From what I’ve seen of the trailers, I’m more inclined to believe it will be the former, as everything from the visuals to the pacing to the pitch-perfect performances (at least in the brief trailer scenes) all scream quality. But you can never tell with trailers. They’re so easy to manipulate. That’s why Hollywood can make a movie about a giant killer crocodile and try to convince us it’s actually a movie about a notorious serial killer. But we’ll see. In any case, some new stills from the movie have arrived in my mailbox. Enjoy.
