Andrew Niccol (“Gattaca”) is presently filming his latest sci-fi film. The project was called “I’m.mortal”, which is just awful, but that has been changed to the overly generic “Now”. The film stars Justin Timberlake, everyone’s favorite member of N’Sync, and Amanda Seyfried, who I can’t come up with a quip for. A photographer recently snapped a few quick pictures from the set.
Timberlake is Will, a “rebel from the ghetto” accused of murdering a wealthy man for the time he owns. He takes a girl hostage (Seyfried) and goes on the run, battling against the young-looking society that enforces time as currency. Chasing them are Cillian Murphy and Collins Pennie. Olivia Wilde plays Justin Timberlake’s mother, Vincent Kartheiser plays Amanda Seyfried’s father, and Johnny Galecki is the alcoholic best friend of Timberlake’s character.
Aside from the look of Timberlake, who looks like a real action star with his Jason-Statham-style shaved head, and Seyfried, who I didn’t recognize at first with the short, red bob, these photos don’t reveal much about the film. “Now” doesn’t appear super futuristic, but the best sci-fi is often situated in a world that closely resembles our own.
