If you were one of those people who were less than impressed with the first talky trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s re-imagining of WWII, then this new, second full trailer should feel like a kick in the pants. It’s still got Brad Pitt doing that weird accent of his (“bidness”?), still very talky, but it’s funnier, quirkier, and definitely fills in more of the film’s plot, namely that the Basterds plan to infiltrate a Nazi gathering at a movie theater that will be attended by none other than Hitler himself. Also, we finally see Mike Myers as a British General in the movie. Good stuff, and finally makes me want to see this thing. Sure, it’ll still be talky as hell most likely (it is a QT movie, after all), but at least it’ll be funny, too.
In Nazi-occupied France during World War II, a group of Jewish-American soldiers known as “The Basterds” are chosen specifically to spread fear throughout the Third Reich by scalping and brutally killing Nazis. The Basterds soon cross paths with a French-Jewish teenage girl who runs a movie theater in Paris which is targeted by the soldiers.
Starring Brad Pitt, Mélanie Laurent, Eli Roth, Christoph Waltz, Michael Fassbender, Diane Kruger, Daniel Brühl, Til Schweiger, Gedeon Burkhard, Jacky Ido, and B.J. Novak. Written and directed by Quentin Tarantino.
The basterds come to play August 21.
